Nissan is chronicling the construction of their 2014 Garage 56 entry. Today, the tub of what will become the Delectrical Wing arrived, and the engineers take us around and show some important bits. Nissan's goal with the car is to run a sub 4:00 lap at Le Mans on entirely electric power. 4:00 would have qualified the experimental car at 44th at this year's event. Of course, with the motor, the ZEOD-RC will be able to go quicker.

I can't wait to hear about how revolutionary this thing is when there's an actual Deltawing fighting for an overall win at Daytona and three different hybrids running designs that are actually designed to make the car more competitive, not hit a marketing point, are the only cars fighting for the overall win at Le Mans. All with GT Academy kids that went from GT players on couches to professional racers despite the fact that they spent more time in shifter karts than they ever did on Gran Turismo!

I've begun practicing my sarcastic impressed face already.

Also, there's a V8SC fuel equivalency joke in here already, but I'm too busy being sad that I'm so pessimistic about a project that involves Ben Bowlby to think about that at the moment.

It certainly is an interesting experiment, although the details are still too scarce to figure out exactly what they're doing and what the overall benefits will be. It would be nice to see if they can use it to showcase some new variant of electrical or hybrid technology. If they can distribute enough information to inspire future engineers (as the Bloodhound SSC team are doing so successfully), then that can only be a good thing.

Looks like they're going to go for the electric vehicle Land Speed Record too (after Le Mans). http://www.autosport.com/news/report.ph…
