The Sukhoi T-50 PAK FA. Pretty sweet lookin plane, methinks. First flight was three (!) years ago, so I'm kinda shocked I hadn't seen it before.

PAK-FA! great stuff. I had a coworker who was there for a lot of those test flights, he had some neat pics. This is supposed to really be a true contender for the F-22

Having been close enough to lick the YF-23, I thought the shape of the Soviet Russian plane looked a little too familiar.

Quite. I think that's why I was so surprised not to know of it already. The 23 is, in my opinion, the prettiest jet ever.

There's one at Wright-Patt in the USAF Museum. Unfortunately, the Experimental and Presidential Hangar is closed due to Sequestration. It's wonderful to be able to look at it up close and touch it. I like the F-22 and have watched them fly out at Langley AFB, but the YF-23 just looked more menacing.

I know. I used to volunteer there, in that hanger. Sequestration is total BS.

And you're really not supposed to touch the planes on display. *wags finger in disapproving manner*

:-) One docent actually opened up a few planes and let me get in. It was a pretty quiet day. The one I really want to get in is the XB-70. Wow, that is quite an airplane.

That must have been a while ago. I am certain that kind of thing is absolutely verboten now.

Yeah everyone asks how to get into the XB-70. It is indeed a magnificent airplane.

There are some fantastic documentaries on youtube about the development of the SU 27 and its further evolutions ~Su T-50. This is a 5th? 6th? generation fighter? The documentaries go on to explain how we went from fixed wing to delta wing, to variable geomentry, to lifting body, etc. Seems the Sukhoi folks are the leaders over there, but all we know from growing up, (fracking top gun) is the Mig.
