Saw a Lincoln MKZ during lunch that was reversing and I noticed...

...the back up light is just a small, narrow few inches of LED's in the center. You can see them here, they are a slightly different shade of white in this photo from the rest of the thin strip. Kind of weird, such a small reverse light, but I guess it's bright enough since it's LED.

I noticed the other day that the daytime running lights on the Tesla Model S dim when the corresponding blinker turns on.

And Audi's turn off all together, although I heard it is defeatable.

LEDs be FANTASTIC. Solid state, fast response, almost immune to vibration if they are built well (quality solder joints, secure mounting) and probably outlast the car, very little heat for most instances, efficient color-specific, and directional output, not wasting light output everywhere, and relatively miniscule electrical load.

Granted higher-output for bright applications use a little more electricity, and generate a little bit of heat... still less than heated filaments in glass bulbs. That has been essential tech for more than a century, but Edison's technology is being surpassed.

All automotive lighting should be LED... maybe HID if LED headlights are still prohibitively expensive and limited for color rendition.

If I were still looking for a nice sedan, MKZ would definitely be on the list.

And I LOVE that it threw out the faux-machine gear selector stick, and just put the electrical buttons on the dash. A modern automatic gearstick is just a bit of plastic, metal, and leather, with electronic switches inside anyway... a lot of R&D and materials to replicate a function that is no longer a physical linkage anyway.

That's the case in the US (and several other countries); and, yes, it is pretty easy to change with VCDS.

In the newest Audis the DRL LEDs shares the same swoopy space with the turn signal so it has to go off when the indicator comes on.
