I hate fruit flies. I wonder if somebody spilled milk on my trash can after they got done messing with me seat. They are flying at me from all directions! I turned on all my monitors to scare them, but they aren't scared. SMASH THEM ALL!

Set fire to your cubicle to prevent the flies from breeding.

My mom just mentioned in an email this morning that she is having similar problems with fruit flies. A few years ago, I had a real problem with them in my house, so I went old-school and got a few rolls of fly paper. Worked like a charm.

If that fly paper does not work for you OR if you just want to try something else; prepare a 50/50 mixture of Tilex and plain water in a separate spray bottle, then spray your "area" and the little bastards will die. The Tilex odor may be a bit strong (for some), but it soon dissipates.

Home grown solution (if you're interested)

Materials
(1) Mason Jar w/ lid
(1) dish smaller than the mouth of the mason jar
(2) Tbps apple cider vinegar (what do you mean you don't have any?)
Small baubles shorter than the small dish to support mason jar (I used 2 post-it pads)

Put the vinegar in the dish, put the dish on the mason jar lid (with the lid upside down). Put the baubles on either side of the dish. Put the mason jar upside down with it's mouth on the baubles, thus suspending the jar over the dish. Leave over night.

The fruit flies fly under the rim of the mason jar top get to the vinegar. After drinking some vinegar, they fly upward to leave, thus getting stuck in the mason jar. Fruit flies are too dumb to fly down out of the jar. In the morning, move the baubles, close the mason jar with flies, dish and vinegar inside. Move the jar outside and release the flies into the wild (more satisfying in the dead of winter).

Cost ~ $0 (you can substitute lots of things for the vinegar, but they are very attracted to it if you have it). I used this in my last office all the time, as the slobs around me left food at their desks daily.

It's my own variation of the funnel in a mason jar trap, which I've seen go terribly wrong when it comes to disposal (paper funnel falls in when you pick it up, cloud of pestilence escapes)

Or, the easy way. Take some ketchup or similar, add enough water to thin it out. Put it in a saucer or something. It's sticky enough to trap them, and attractive enough that they go for it.
