Two questions, as to how much sense this makes:

1: How well is Rapide selling?

2: Could this be put on a level far enough above the Quattroporte (which it would have to be, being a Ferrari) and still have a market?

The Rapide would probably sell better if it was based off a more current model. Judging by the fact they're caring enough to update it, I don't think it's selling miserably.
And yes, it could. Most GT owners wouldn't mind having a pair of extra doors, and the Quattroporte of the time was aimed at the M3 and S4.

However, the reason Ferrari will never again make a four door saloon has been stated by Luca de Montezemelo when he mentioned that he wants to keep Ferrari as excusive as possible in order to please the pompous few who can actually afford one. This car would have to be produced in mass quantities, the price would be less, and then no one would buy the more expensive Ferraris because their neighbor has one, and they want to show the world their net worth; this would make Ferrari a Porsche competitor, and that's a Maranello No-No.
