Hopefully this rumor is true. I think it would be even better if they made a diesel powered with some help from their cousins over at Audi. Would a all Gas or Diesel motor sell better the the hybrid?

No it wouldn't.
Porsche is directly bringing tech from the race world into their production cars.
If they wanted to make an all motor car, they could and would have.
The appeal of these cars is that this tech which generally was reserved for LMP1 or F1 cars is now a viable choice on the open market.

Turbine or Mr. Fusion or GTFO.

Its more like they are taking tech from their street car and taking it to the LMP car. chicken v.s. egg. The 918 was announced in 2010. As far as opening the product line, the article claims that they are looking to make a 4 seat version. I was suggesting that the limiting factor on the 918 may be price, especially considering the power numbers. Maybe a all fossil fuel car would allow for a new market to open, taking on the likes of the 458, mp4, vanquish etc.

Turbine power intake noise FTW.

I just want to see a proper four-seat car with the engine in the back. It'll never happen, but I'd love to see it.
Oh, and it'd better be brown.

Not really.
Porsche 911 GT3 RSR, its been doing the HY-KERS for a long time now.
More to the point, Audi and co. have been doing turbo-gas and turbo diesel combined with HY-KERS for a few years now, THAT is what is being brought to the street. Hybrid tech I might add that Porsche borrowed from Audi seeing as how Audi has been making extensive use of it.
If Porsche wanted a 458 fighter...what is the 911 Turbo for? Or the GT2? They already exist. Porsche is doing the 918 as a road going exercise, just because they can. Its not as expensive as its main 2 rivals either so it has that going for it, by all accounts the 918 will be the most mast produced of the 3 hy-kers equipped hypercars coming out.
Like I said, if they wanted a gas only car they already have them sitting around. That isn't the point of making the 918 and you're missing the point if you think that a all gas model is what Porsche is interested in doing. Porsche themselves know that the V8 on its own is a monster, its a race block adapted for the road and they could've easily made it as just a 550hp+ gas burner but they didn't want to do that.

Touche, I forgot that they made a hybrid version of the RSR. I was more or less addressing the articles first point that the company is worried about profits. I guess one can only hope for them to make the 550+ race block adapted motor and put into a 918 chassis without the added weight of the hybrid electrical system.

They won't, but for a long time it's been suspected that they'll do a more direct 458 rival than the GT2/3 that'll be mid-engined, for people who want a 918 but don't have All The Monies. This rumor car is often dubbed "960" or "961" as a nod of course to the 959 supercar. Maybe the V8 will be put in that if they actually make it.

Hybrid hatred is getting old now. The hybrid hypercars aren't Priuses for goodness sake, they use cutting-edge technology to redefine performance. Porsche's redefinition is different to the P1 and LaFerrari in that it can be a proper all-electric car, and frankly when it means that you can do 200mph to work and 90mpg on the way home (or vice versa), that's just plain awesome to me.
Besides, they're only making 918 of them, and they'll be sold out very quickly as it is.
