I took my motorcycle, a 1995 Suzuki VS1400, out of winter storage at the end of May (salt was still on the road for quite a while). It was my first winter with a bike so I was not very optimistic about getting it started even though I did what I felt was proper storage procedure. I had a trickle charger, which I checked routinely, I had fuel stabilizer and a full tank of new gas that I ran through the engine to make sure the stabilizer was in the lines, I wiped everything down and covered it. Unfortunately, when I went to move it...no front brake. Goodbye master cylinder. (Good news was, though, that there were no issues starting it up!)

So I called the shop that I bought the bike from and they picked it up. Took a while to track down the part and have it shipped...I had checked in every week and then, when it was all set to be picked up, I didn't have time. Too many things kept getting in the way. Family events, emergencies, work, travel, new car, new place to live, life in general. I was never able to get over there so I could enjoy a full season of riding.

I told myself that this past weekend would be different. It was. The weather was gorgeous and so I got a ride to the shop, chatted up the guys there for a bit, and got my bike. They even had some saddle bags in the shop I could have so I didn't have to keep zip-tying my backpack shut (unreliable zippers). I was so excited, but extremely hesitant. It had been almost a year since I last road...would I be ok?

Short answer: yes. It was glorious. Someone had given me a padded jacket and everything as well so no more thrift shop Indiana Jones leather jacket for me (at least while riding)! It was perfect. Even though I have a full faced helmet I'm pretty sure people around me could see I was grinning from ear to ear. Felt wonderful.

(Check out the duct tape on that seat...that's how I roll. Wicked comfortable seat, though.)

Two wheels good, indeed.

(Edit: Also, if anyone ever needs service in the Boston area, go to HD Cycles in Braintree. Family owned and operated, great people. They wouldn't even have sold me the bike if I didn't take the rider safety course. So, shout out to them!)

Congrats to you, sir. After nearly 40 years of riding, I still get giddy on that first 80 degree day.
