It is getting new cam bearings installed. That means I can start reassembling the engine! I'm over the hump as far as taking things off the car.

I've been paying attention to this on and off, so forgive me if you've mentioned this, but what condition is the block in currently? Has it been hot tanking? Any machine work done?

What cam did you decide on?

I have been following this closely. Can't wait for the startup.

Are you getting anything else done at the machine shop? Boring it .030 over? Getting it tanked? Or just cam bearings?

The block is stripped, only the bottom end is still on it. I have a new camshaft, new carb, new intake, new heads, new exhaust, and some other new bits for it. It hasn't been hot tanked but we have cleaned and degreased it very thoroughly. The engine has less than 60,000 miles on it, so nothing needs machined.

Just bearings, it's all it needs (and all I can afford). The engine has less than 60,000 on it, everything is in great shape.

Comp Cams XE268H. It is a slightly more agressive cut than a Ram Air III car, but a bit more streetable than the ram air IV cam (see video).

I'd still suggest check the decks to make sure they're still true. A straight edge and some feeler gauges are cheap insurance.
