Me and my friend is going to a junkyard to find some engine. Wish me luck!
Anyway, any advice of taking an engine out from a crashed car?
My personal target is a corolla engine for my Kia, and my friend looking for a R500 merc. Altough you may suggest a better engine for my kia, if I made a mistake of choosing a corolla for swap target. If you wondering how big is my kia's engine room, it's about the size of a miata's engine room.

Are you sure that Corolla engine will even fit? An engine swap can be pretty damn tricky.
Things to consider:
Does the engine fit the Kia's gearbox? If not, does the Corolla gearbox fit in the Kia or will you need to do some cutting and welding to make it fit?
You are going to have to take the ECU (Engine Control Unit) from the car you take the engine from, which creates all kind of compatibility issues, especially on newer cars with all their various warning lights and whatnot. Actually, what year model is your Kia and what year model is the Corolla?
Do the Kia's motor mounts fit the engine or do the Corolla's motor mounts fit the Kia (both are very unlikely)? If not, are there aftermarket mounts available that fit and make the swap possible? Otherwise you're going to have to make custom motor mounts, and that's not necessarily as easy as you think it might be (for instance if you forget to add some form of padding the engine is going to shake the entire car).
Do you have any experience at all with doing an engine swap, or do you have anyone helping you who does? It's not brain surgery, but if you don't know what you're doing things can go wrong very quickly. Trust me on that one.

Doesn't look like anything's a definite fit but you weren't specific as to what Kia. The gist I get from browsing is: first gen used a variation of a Mazda FE3 motor.
Tuners go after the Mazda one for a bit more horsepower, but lots of things to relocate and fabricate, even for what is basically the same motor, built to fit different chassis.
It might be easier changing gaskets, clean it and installing a for sale sign.

Well, it's both 1996 model year. Most of my friend did the same thing before, so i won't have that much trouble.
And yes, it's using aftermarket mounts. And the result is awesome, since it's really common in here. Altough there's some understeer sinxe it's a ff car.

Well it sounds like a really odd swap to me, but also like something that I'd imagine is popular locally, just like Supra and V8 swaps in EVERYTHING here in Sweden.
If your friends have done it and can help you then go for it. What are the performance gains?

Ya.
Its really common, because the parts for stock kia engine (which is a mazda built) is really hard to get, so we put something that easier to get.
Its just arround 48hp gain (120 to 168), but I think it's worth it.
