Well according to AAA, !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! . I wouldn't find that wording weird if other states didn't have "Hazard use is not allowed unless to indicate a traffic hazard" which implies that you can use them if your car is a hazard but otherwise, you can't use them just because. Seriously, what the hell, other states? Can you get a citation in one of those states if your car is genuinely a hazard and you use the lights?

I seriously doubt cops will pull you over. Maybe it's a law so cops have an excuse to pull over people who do use them, so that they can decide if they should help or fine them.

The website is unclear. Is this while the vehicle is in motion? Or if it is stationary somewhere, like in a breakdown lane? Because if it is in motion, I agree with the states that either don't allow their use or only when indicating a traffic hazard.
On my way home yesterday traffic was a bit tied up (as it always is) and I saw some guy driving a clapped out late 80's 3-Series BMW and a New York plate cruising up the breakdown lane with his hazards on. When the highway split and I continued on my way home, here he was, cruising in the right lane with his hazards on, sorta blocking up traffic. If you can maintain any sort of highway speed, you shouldn't be driving with your hazards on. And if you can't maintain highway speeds, get off the highway.

Why would you use them if not indicating a hazard?
The only time I've used mine was when:
1. Breaking down and pulling off the side of the road
2. I've been in/was a close witness to an accident
3. Traffic suddenly slows ahead of me, and I would not like to be rear-ended (my car has separate amber bulbs in the rear) by traffic unawares
4. Accident/stalled car/etc ahead, warning drivers behind me of an upcoming issue

I've seen morons driving around with them on when they looked to be lost and thus were crawling along at 20mph in a 45mph zone on multiple occasions. I've also seen bigger idiots driving around with them on for seemingly no reason at all.

It's true, you should only use them in case of an actual road hazard. However, according to the wording on the AAA link, it reads like you can't use them ever which is what's confusing me

Well, if the lost people were driving slow enough to CAUSE a hazard, then its justified.

Its like that sign someone posted last night. "No racing between 10PM and 5AM". Implies racing is allowed during the day.

I'll agree to an extent, but honestly if you are that lost, perhaps it's time to pull over into a parking lot and consult a map or the GPS built into most phones these days.

The only time I've considered using them is if my car is the hazard.

True story....
We often take CME from Denver to the ski resorts in bad conditions. For those that have not used this shuttle service, it's all-day commuter van rides to the major ski resorts from the Denver airport. They are all crammed full of 10-12 passengers, skis, and luggage, and the drivers are fearless.
They drive like they get paid by the trip, and they're trying to squeeze in as many runs as they can... It doesn't matter what the weather is, they are always +5 MPH over everyone. Snow, bad visibility, etc... Mrs McMike is always nervous when the weather is bad. I tell her... "Honey, these guys make 20-25 trips a week up here. If there is anyone I trust, it's these guys... Enjoy the ride."
One time, the weather was quite bad. Visibility was horrible, and there were barely visible pavement on I-70. The driver was running up the mountain like a special rally stage, as usual. He was also pretty chatty. We come up to a car that's driving slowly with it's hazard lights on in the left lane. He pulled right up to the car's bumper and he said,
"You know what those flashing lights mean? (pause) It means they're scaaaared"
Then he flashed his high beams, laid on the horn until the driver moved over to the other lane. Made it to Frisco ON TIME.

As a Denver native, this is why I love Denver. Great story!

Well it appears I have committed a crime in FL. Typically the only time I really use them is if I have to pull over on the side of the road, or if traffic is significantly slowed up a head, or if I cannot see head lights behind me in a down pour. My car is dark gray, the exact shade of gray as the road looks when raining hard, so I throw em on to make sure I don't get rear ended.
Oh, gotta do it when you win a friendly stop light street race, you know, to really rub it in.
