I mentioned that my wife went with me to the hot rod show this weekend. After being there a bit looking at all the shiny cars, chrome, rat-rods etc...she turns to me and says.."so, all of these hot rod guys are attention whores, aren't they?"
I couldn't really dispute her on that observation.
So here''s a song for us!

Only the ones who wrote checks to get there. The ones who built their own are just proud.

Family and I were at Taco Bell on Sunday, and they play oldies there. Wife goes "this song makes me want to go to a car show".
FECK YAH.

Agreed but still there's a little bit of that in it. And so what! They worked hard to do it. no harm in showing it off a bit!

Well it's a better outlet than facebook, I guess :P I suppose if you're going to be an attention whore at all you're best off doing so by some means that people actually like paying attention to. Win/win

That show in PB? If so, then I agree. But not the big shows in LA or some other joints.

Yes, that little one in PB. Still though, I'm not certain big shows are exempt from that. think about Pebble beach for a moment, if you will.

Pebble is the best in the world and a far cry from PB. I hit the Mooneyes Xmas show every year in Irwindale. Those homies pull up, park and walk away to drink beer, see friends and grub. You almost get attitude for asking about their cars. I never get the "show off" vibe.
Pebble really is on a different level. I feel those successful cats have no one to show off too.

It is awesome and you're right, it's not comparable, but that's not what we're talking about. When you have those cars out at Pebbles, there's no shame in admitting that you are being a bit of an attention whore. They ARE showing off to each other. it's just that they go off for a three martini lunch.

Well its settled then. 3 martini lunch in Del Mar!
![]() 08/20/2013 at 19:48 |

Nah, Del Mar is pretty trashy too, but I'd be hard pressed to throw out $500/ticket like you do in Pebble Beach. Maybe we could get something going at Torry Pines for a more reasonable rate. THEN we would have Martinis in the Lodge. (nice place if you've never been there)

Are we talking about two different Del Mars? (Just north of Torry)
heh, I work 2 mins from The Lodge.

Hey, better than brotrucking.

General Atomics?
No, I've been to a few different shows over there. It is nice, and a lot more family friendly than anything in PB would ever be, but it had a very generic, slightly worn feel to the grounds. I think it is the left over mojo from the racetrack. Can you imagine a really nice show over at Torry, though. it would be Very, very cool.
Also the one over at Coronado brings out some pretty unique metal, especially considering that it is a "street" show. I've always found impressive presentations over there.

That is true, but that's a completely different thing.

Heh! What building do you work in?

I'm in Carlsbad, but I used to live in UTC. I know that area like the back of my hand.

This some funny shit. I live in Carlsbad.

I only work here, I actually live in Sera Mesa. We should high five as we pass each other on the 5 during the evening commute.

One's pretty much showing off everywhere (in my opinion at least), the other is careful pride that's either the result of hard work or paid work.

Brotrucking is not cool, no matter who did the work. But that's just my opinion.

To me, only bros drive brotrucks. The people who drive lifted trucks because they live out in the plains aren't bros, they're people with lifted trucks.
![]() 08/20/2013 at 20:28 |

Agreed, I grew up around plenty of people like that, out in the middle of nowhere. No problem with them.. Those that drive the lifted trucks but never leave the pavement and do things like "rolling coal" are the bros in question. i have no use for people like that.

That's how they "express themselves", sadly. Whenever I see one the word "compensation" comes up, and around friends they always seem to think the same.

Sounds about right.

The back of your hand looks nothing like UTC!
I know Serra Mesa quite well...

I know it's an unusual tattoo, but at the time it was quite a novel idea.

Damn dude, I'll buy you a GPS, or at the very least a Thomas Guide.

Nah man, now that I think about it, its a great idea. Left hand on the wheel, the map is just below your line of vision. =P
