So, I recently wrote about Xtreme Motorworks here in the Seattle area. I alluded to the co-owner Willie organizing some meets here in the area. Back in June, he organized a

that ended up at Southcenter Mall in Tukwila, WA.
For those that don't know, the purpose of the "Flash Mob" car show is not to reveal the location of the event right before it happens! We gave you a date and general location. Goal is to be in that area around the time given and then we will let you know where to meet a few minutes before. Part of the fun is not knowing and having a mass amount of cars roll in to one place unannounced. Please remember if we want something like this to work, everyone needs to spread the word and when we arrive we need to be respectful to everyone including cops. Also if we do show up at a business, spend some money! Hard to kick people out when they are making money!
Over 1000 cars, trucks, bikes, etc showed up with very little notice. He's doing it again (this time I'm actually going) on September 8th with at least four pre-meets throughout the Seattle area ( !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! , !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! , !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! & !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! ). Apparently he's already contacted the owner(s) of the location and has gotten approval from them.
I love the idea of this. Instead of a "Cars & Coffee" type of event, it's a "bring what you got" and enjoy the other cars/trucks/bikes that show up. Apparently, they had a flash mob meet in

this past week, with about 1000 cars showing up. So far the Facebook group is showing 612 Going, 189 Maybe, and another 1842 invites still deciding.
So if you're interested in coming, join the Facebook group, or just show up to one of the pre-meet locations at about 5:30pm on September 8th.
So on to the discussion, what do you guys think of meets like this? I mean, it brings together the car community as a whole instead of just a "Hellaflush" Show or a "Hot Rod" Show, etc., and that's why I like the concept.

I like the idea of everyone is welcome type of car shows.

Sounds similar to a meet that gets thrown here in Colorado. Cept these ones get aired probably an hour before hand.
Where these go south is the fact that at each location they then give another location to meet up again... You can see where that's going. Needless to say it gets sketchy and the cops are not fans of these guys. Hard to stop 1000+ cars at once though

Same concept, but I don't know how long beforehand he's going to give out the location. Rolling to different spots with 1000+ cars is nuts! I think Willie may have taken that into consideration when he started planning these though, as it stays put (besides the pre-meets).

I'm confused, so are you saying they got permission to 'pre-meet' and then they are going to do the flash mob by going from the 'pre-meet' to somewhere else?
I've got two great events I attend regularly. The Irvine Cars and Coffee and Woodland Hills Supercar Sunday. C&C is great, it's a bring what you have type meet, anything can be there. The only problem is space, so your anything does need to be interesting. That doesn't stop anyone from parking with the rest of the cool cars in spectator parking. I know that's not the same as being able to stand next to your car, but never been a problem for me. Supercar Sunday is way more laid back, and they have more space, so you really can bring anything.
I'm not a fan of 'Flash Mob Meets'. If this is pre-planned and approved, that's different (not a flash mob then, it's a meet or show). But showing up somewhere without permission with several hundred cars, and then doing burnouts and stupid crap, is douchebaggery of the highest level. Anyone being a part of an un-approved by the property owner type show or meet is an asshat that makes it harder for anyone trying to plan legitimate shows.

It's a Flash Mob in the sense of at this time, only the organizer and the property owner knows where it will be held. The pre-meets are at the local malls to kind of gather before the release of the information.
I'm not a fan of the burnout/douchbaggery either, luckily I didn't hear about any of that happening at the first one and I doubt it will fly at all at this coming one.

Ok, that's a little better. I still don't see the need to all show up at once. Is creating traffic really that cool? Do the police know it's happening?
If you look at what has happened in Burbank, you might see why these make me so irate. If those asshats start jeopardizing the meets/shows that are well planned, I'm going to be pissed.

7pm on a Sunday night shouldn't impede traffic here, not to mention I doubt everyone will end up showing at once, even from the pre-meets. It's no worse than people leaving Century Link after a Sounder's match or Seahawks game, to be honest.
Since I didn't organize this, I'm not sure if the police are aware, but it's been out on social media for a while. I don't know of any issues with the last one, but your concerns are certainly valid. I don't want to see organized meets go away either.
