Autoblog reports the Saab factory in Trollhättan is reopening to build the 9-3 again starting in September. Reports are that the first 100 to roll off the line will be a special "Zaambie Edition". (OK, I made that last part up)

Saab-y's toast, Saab-y's to-oast.
They were done in by poor sales.
New Asian hoasts, Asian ho-oasts.
Now it rises from the grave.

I thought all their IP and tooling was bought up by a Chinese company, leaving just the name...Did my brain make that up, or is that a thing? Article says they're starting with more or less GM-era 9-3's... Interesting.

That is true.
National Electric Vehicle Sweden AB (NEVS), a Chinese-Japanese consortium created solely to buy Saab,
It is Saab's new Chinese overlords that are reopening the plant. Presumably the necessary tooling and machines were not sold off and remain at the plant.

aaaah thanks for pointing that out. I guess now the question is what they'll be called then? I thought I remembered reading they bought the rights to the design, but not the Saab name.

Not sure what to think about this.
I really, really like the last 9-5. They should make more of them.

If it makes you feel any better, there's a chance this 9-3 will end up being a Chinese-branded electric car. That was the original ambition of the company that purchased Saab.
