Clearly it's a race car, but what series did it race in?

288 GTO Evo

288 GTO Evoluzione. It was intended for Group B rally racing but never raced, as Group B was shuttered for multiple reasons (safety was the biggest reasion IIRC). There were apparently 5 made.

Possibly a version of the Huffaker 308GTB.

That's the predecessor to the F40, the 288 GTO.

288 GTO Evoluzione and it raced in Group B.

Good info, but not strictly true about Group B. Group B was intended to support road racing as well as rallying. The 288 GTO would have competed in road racing, and I guess it could have competed on select rallies as well.

What? You can't read the placard?

As others have said, this
was modified into this to participate in Group B rally,
which after Group B was banned evolved into this,
which was improved upon/made road legal to make the F40 we all know and love.

It's a unicorn is what it is! That is an extremely rare 288 GTO Evoluzione... 1 of 6. My understanding is that it's basically an ugly F40 prototype... It was meant to compete in Group B, the 'unlimited' rally class, but it was cancelled (group B, I mean).

So that's why I once saw a guy walk into a Ferrari dealership while singing "Gotta Catch 'Em All!"...

Thanks for the responses guys! My neighbor has an endurance racing prepped 288 GTO (we're talking roll cage, fire suppression, straight pipes, the works), so I should have known better. That thing is phenomenal, and he claims it is the only endurance prepped car in the country. Not sure if that us true, but I'd like to get some photos of it soon.
