Kinja'd!!!

I said I would make a post about the cars I have seen in Shanghai, and here it is. I lived in China for the six months between February and August this year (four months in Beijing and 2 months in Shanghai). I am back in the states for my senior year, but I hope to head back to China after graduating. These pictures were taken over about two months with Nikon D3200. I am not a good photographer, and the camera was borrowed. Hopefully the cars shine through the fog of my mediocrity.

I took these first pictures were taken one day when I decided to go to different dealerships around the city. Overall, it was good, but the people at the Ferrari and Lamborghini dealerships were less than welcoming. You're not allowed to take pictures inside. I understand why, but it is still disappointing for an enthusiast that just wants to enjoy his favorite cars in the world. The people at the Lamborghini dealership pictured below wouldn't even come to the door, they just waived me off. Weak, man, weak....So the pictures are from the outside.

There are sooooooooo many G Classes in Shanghai, mostly G63s. I couldn't be happier about that fact.

Kinja'd!!!

Yay wagon! The salespeople couldn't figure out why I was so excited by this C200 wagon. Because wagon. That's why. Also, we don't have these in the states.

Kinja'd!!!

Same deal with the Porsche dealership, no pictures inside. Thankfully, they actually had some metal outside.

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

These next pictures were taken during my six mile walk back to my university. One of my favorite things to do was find random parking garages and seeing what gems lay within. Here's what I saw.

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

Plenty of matte paint in both Shanghai and Beijing. This Golf GTI was especially interesting due to the special edition "matte paint with glossy bumper" package. Classy...

Kinja'd!!!

I don't know much about this 911. Badges and stickers said Carerra 4 GTS, but I haven't heard of that package before. God I love those center-lock wheels.

Kinja'd!!!

Everybody has heard of modifying cars in Japan, but China's modified car market is expanding really quickly. I can't say they are to my taste, but to each his own.

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

Skoda Fabia twins!

Kinja'd!!!

'Murica!

Kinja'd!!!

Is this a real VeilSide 350Z? Side note: this guy stalled trying to drive away. Money doesn't equal skill.

Kinja'd!!!

And now, a break from our normal car programming for a beautiful Ducati. Yay Ducati!

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

I will close this installment with this beauty, the Chinese market Honda Odyssey. I love the American market Odyssey, it is practical, well-priced and incredibly useful. But look at this thing, it is fantastic. I want it. I want it so much.

Here is a teaser of Part 2, featuring my multiple visits to the Wynn Luxury Car Club. Good times were had.

Kinja'd!!!

Let me know what you guys think of my first real post, and feel free to ask any questions about my time in China.

At least the Chinese are learning a thing or two on 2-wheelers.

Awesome post. I'd love to learn more about modified cars in China and what the trends are there.

My Favorite is the Quattroporte.

But I don't know why I always feels like Shanghai is a Spiced-up Jakarta.

Especially considering nearly all the cars you featured also sold in here, except the white hatchback that looks like an MG.

Also, if you love asian oddysey, look for the model before the current generation. She's slimmer and more beautiful!

Are you sure the paint was matte and not just eaten away by the pollution over there?

I haven't been to Jakarta, so I can't comment on that haha. I can only say that Shanghai is easily one of the largest financial centers in the world, and incredibly developed.

That is an MG, and there are plenty more where that came from. I will happily post all the weird cars that we don't get in the states. Sounds like I need a part 3 as well...

Thanks, I will look into it and see if I can't post something. I'd like to be the go to guy when it comes to Chinese car news here on Oppo.

Ya, the grill in this one is waaay too big.

It's handles surprisingly good as well. Much better than the other minivans I ever driven.

Yep, MG was bought by SAIC (China's largest automaker that has joint ventures with companies like GM and Volkswagen). They are produced in China and also rebadged under the Roewe brand.

Traffic is worse in Jakarta? Oh man, that has a to suck. The worst I saw in China was in Chengdu. It was awful.

I see..
Last time I saw an MG was the small MGF one back in my highschool day.

Ya, it is worse. But I think not as worse as Beijing.

I've staying in china for 2 months before, 1 month in Beijing and antoher in Shanghai.
Shanghai is awesome!

Awesome! I lived in Beijing for a year between summer of '05 and the summer of '06.

I took a lot of pictures of "Modified" cars because of how silly a lot of them were. People were really into stickers. Sometimes...contradictory stickers. BTW totally agreed on the Odessey. That was one of the first cars i snapped! So clean looking!

The stickers, oh god the stickers. And the badges, those goddamn badges. If I had a dollar for every Mitsubishi I saw with a TRD badge, or a Toyota with an STi badge, I would be a billionaire. That hasn't changed at all.

Yeah, I would have to say Beijing's is really horrible. Cabs don't like to pick you up during morning traffic because the fare you pay won't cover the cost of the gas they waste idling in traffic. Shanghai is indeed a fantastic city. I loved my time there.

Ya. I remember that taxi tradition. Luckily my friend come with his VW Jetta to pick me in the airport. Otherwise maybe I'll stranded there for hours.

Jettas is just everywhere in China. And I want one as well..

Love is strange.
