Time to disown him. They might buff out, but wet sanding might be required.

It's hard to see how deep they are on my phone but you could always try going over the immediate area with progressive stages of rubbing compound applied locally to the scratches and slowly try to work them out.
I'm no paint and body expert so is advise seeing what other Opponauts have to say before taking my word.

I believe he drew on all of our souls, we all feel your pain. That sucks though, he really went to town on it.

He can draw on souls with rocks? Is he a wizard?

I would probably have a professional take a look at that, that looks like some work.

Buy the kid some art supplies so he doesn't have to use the car as a canvas.

I think I'll give this a try regardless. See if maybe I can at least tame it. Some of it looks pretty deep.

Of course he's a wizard. He's a son of a golem!

We didn't notice it until the next day so it was hard to get too mad at him. If I caught him doing it I would have tanned his hide.

Ouch! I caught my son a mere second before doing the same to my car one time.

I'd file an insurance claim. Have a professional fix it. I don't think the term "that'll buff right out" applies in this case.

haha (not laughing at you... just read on) this reminds me of when my brother and I were little kids and decided to "help" our dad by removing the ice from his car before he left for work... with flat head screwdrivers and a hammer... tiny dents and long scratches everywhere... whoops

Or something a little more up to date, like colored pencils and paper?

Your son or the neighbor's son? Theoretically it is possible for the premiums to go up. I would call your insurance agent and ask. If you've got a good agent they'll be honest with you. Just because you call them to talk about your options doesn't require you to file a claim.

You could always work with what you have. Try a little finish work using another rock, it wouldn't take much to turn that into a hamster.

I've had pretty good results with Meguires Ultimate Compound. There are more aggressive compounds out there but his one is pretty safe IMO. I'm not paint and body expert but experience has taught me to start the process by hand and NOT with a machine. Wet sanding will likely do the trick but it ultimately depends on how deep the scratches are and the condition of the paint. The wet sanding process can be pretty damaging in the hands of a beginner. Good luck.

Vinyl wrap that Kia! What's your wife's favorite colour? I'd seriously ask insurance if premiums would go up much to get them to cover it. Just don't lie and say the neighbourhood goons did it. Because lying is wrong. ;)

My 3yo cousin was helping me wash the Firebird a long long time ago, and told him he could use the chamois to dry any water I had missed.

He got bored with that, and grabbed the SOS pad I had used to clean the white letters on the tires. Except he didn't use it on my car, or even its tires. He took it over to the neighbor's Monte Carlo and started to "wash" the quarter panel.

Whoops.

I never told him, and I think he never noticed (it was a '78, and not in the best condition) it.

No doubt! I knew someone who hid modifications from them, and then damaged his car. Not only did they not cover it, they also canceled his coverage. Insurance is one thing to take seriously!

Their job is to get out of paying you if you break their rules. Otherwise they'd never make money, right? If you follow their rules they'll be obligated to give you what you paid for.

Kinja'd!!! LumberJunk > CalzoneGolem
08/19/2013 at 14:25

yeppers, not only that, it's the liars and cheaters that make our premiums go sky high! I felt like I was a cheater when mine gave me a rental car for 2 days! I felt like I was ripping them off, but hey, I pay for exactly that coverage!

Lying to them is simply breaching the contract that both of you agreed to, so theoretically they could take you to court even if no claim went through.

It was probably a word bubble for the car saying, "My owner is awesome and her husband made a wonderful choice when he purchased me!"

(I'm just trying to help the poor kid out. I remember closing the garage on my dad's 911.)
