So, I did some maths.

Unless you have the patience and the cash to wait for the perfect pristine gem, don't buy a previously loved Evo.

Good chance it's previous lover was abusive...

Good luck.

I hope you have better luck finding one in good shape than I did when I was briefly considering a WRX last year. All the ones I found were hooned out or overpriced.

Oddly, yeah.
I mean it's expensive, yeah. But I've never had a car that had cheap insurance. So, it's just kinda the norm for me!

This is my favorite generation Evo.

I've owned my Evo VIII since new in 2003. They are great cars if taken care of. Mine has run pretty flawlessly. Still has the original clutch after 132k miles. As had been mentioned, finding one that has been taken care of and not modded to death may be a challenge, but can be done. Not everyone has abused them. I know I haven't.

Things to keep in mind though...the interior isn't great and will have rattles. The brake calipers are prone to paint peeling. Brembo put a pretty ineffective clear coat on them. The wing is also probe to loosing its clear coat. Mine lasted longer than most due to UV protectant wax, but has started to go. The body paint is very thin and has no clear coat! Most Mitsubishi dealerships have little idea of how to deal with them as they are not the standard Mitsubishi shit box. Be ready for some wrenching. That said, it is pretty easy to work on. I have the electronic shop manuals. If you get one let me know and I could hook you up. OEM Parts are also expensive, but there is a huge, mature aftermarket.

I'd rather have the Speed6.

Cool! Thanks! I've seen a few, and I mean enough enough to count on one hand, in my last couple of days of browsing that are stock, under 100K, and don't have any of the tell tale signs of abuse. If there are any when it's time to buy, who knows.

I see less and less of them around. Four or five years ago they were everywhere in all kinds of state of modification. Now it seems like I see as many STis as I saw Evos back then, and vice versa. Maybe, hopefully, this is the start of them falling out of the boy racers eye, and into a more dedicated owners group.
