Everything was fine for several months. Maybe too long. Then a brake seized and the radiator fan died on the same day. Ordered new parts. Took a while for one to come in so the car was off the road. Get the new parts in and my friend notices my ball joints are bad ...and a tie rod. Shit. Ordered those. Got them in and discovered about $500+ of other work the front end needs. Bushings, steering rack... Well at least the car is ready just in time for the weekend and a fun adventure. Get home from the fun weekend and the next day the brake light comes on. The clutch pedal spring slipped free and broke the master cylinder feed hose adapter, draining brake fluid all over the floor of my car. Ordered a new feed hose adapter and got a new hose while I was at it. They come in yesterday. I am trying to get in there to get the hose adapter out of the master cylinder and the end breaks off still in it. So I unbolt the master cylinder for a better angle and the clutch pedal spring assembly completely falls apart. Now I'm trying to track down one online but they are not available at any of the parts places I buy from except one and they have to special order it at over twice the price it cost a couple years ago. Hence why I feel like smashing my face into the internets until the parts become available and a money tree refills my bank account.
Hows your day?

I know that feel, I've had my car less than 3 months and the entire cooling system has been replaced, wheel bearings repacked, new brakes and new wires, coil, plugs and distributor. It still randomly stalls.

This sounds like it's a 400,000 mile Chevy Vega.
How do so many things break on one car in such a short time?

Lmfao... That is quite possibly the greatest animated GIF I've ever seen... I'm dying... it's hilarious...

Got a car in December, needs a new engine now.
Plus I have replaced all the turbo piping, intercooler, Brembo Front calipers, brakes all around. And minor other things....It sucks.....

2008 Chevy Cobalt SS.

uh oh.
I have an 09. It sounded real familiar.
I've gone through intercooler, brakes, broke off the "glass" breather tube from the intake, and a MAF pigtail since oct.
other than that it's been great, lol.
what happened with the motor?
![]() 08/15/2013 at 18:31 |

Intake broke at the PCV....as you stated its made of glass....So that somehow cooked the motor according to Chevy and now they won't warranty it....
No Compression in Cyl 1.....So f-it.
Ordered and LDK....waiting on that to be delivered. Then a new tune, and some other goodies....
I have a ZZP Intercooler kit, MAF Relocation, BOV, and ZZP CAtless DP with a muffler delete.

This is why I only own cars I really like. Then I look forward to things breaking as an excuse to upgrade and improve. Owning cars that feel like money pits just makes life depressing.
It's all about perspective. Sure, I'm still broke, but it FELT like a good thing.

wow. I fixed mine using a brass fitting at lowes. Going to be ordering a K&N soon.
How many miles did the LNF have before it popped? I'm at 89k with my fingers crossed real hard. Only have a catless downpipe and intercooler at the moment on stock tune.

76k on the dot....lol
But I ordered the ZZP Silicone one, cause its cheaper, and I can run whatever filter I want one it, I want to get a dry foam, better performance, and I prefer those over oiled ones.
I'm selling all my old parts that are useable....Turbo is kinda spoken for, if the kid gets the money I want, everything else is available. Might just scrap it all haha

ZZP silicone is the way to go, I just need moar turbo noise lol.
okay, are you on cobaltss.net? I might be interested in a few things, namely:
valve cover for sure.
Possibly intake manifold / TB for a friend
Head - maybe depending on what you need for it
either way, if you could email me at ronald.till88@gmail.com I'll try to get a better list together!

True once I replace the bits it feels great and I am happy to keep the car going. It is just this instance of one thing after another after another after another that is getting frustrating. As soon as it is over I'll be quite happy again.

I hate CSS.....so I don't go there haha.
I'm on Cobalt SS Gang on FB....equally as useless.
NE Cobalts is good though...We are all from New England though, not sure where you are out of lol

I try to do large batches before they actually need doing. For instance, I do ALL the brakes at once and service the calipers while I'm in there and top it all off with a full brake fluid change. If I'm braking out the jack stands, I'm getting my use out of them before I put them away.
It's rare I have anything just break on my cars... rotating through maintenance keeps me well ahead of that. Typically I am the one breaking things by pushing them too hard, and those parts I can somewhat plan for as well.

Thanks....lmfao
Its all good, Cavaliers are good Daily drivers....Cobalt, sure....SS...we don't wanna talk about it...

I am sorry for your pain, but from my perspective it's kinda funny, everyone always tells me that Cavaliers are such shit, it's kinda funny that the one that came after was worse. Oh well....

The base Cobalt is a great car....
However add Turbocharger, and said car becomes a nightmare....I love it.
But it spends more time on a jackstand or in the air than I get to drive it....

There are a shit ton of cobalts in my complex, they may actually be literally 10% of the vehicles here.
![]() 08/15/2013 at 21:38 |

Probably all LS and LT....
Only one percent of Cobalts produced were SS between 08-10
Before that they made a few more SS with the SC Engine.
![]() 08/15/2013 at 21:40 |

I saw one that said LS. I am pretty sure noone here has an SS, I think I could spot it via it's big wing.

Down in TN, yeah CSS is really really bad, but there are a few knowledgable people hanging around the road racing auto-x section.
Mostly just stancers and street racing/drag guys that act like they're 10 years old.

Big wing, 18 inch wheels, big exhaust and SS badges haha.
Plus the Turbo one has brembo brakes too.

I've posted in the normal section once....Got responses from total idiots. I was asking a simple question and no one would give me a straight answer.
