Like the DeltaWing? Impressed by its performance at Road America? Want to race in USCR next year? Well now you can !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! customer DeltaWing 'coupes' (not really a coupe because it has a single central seat)!
Despite the car not having seen a race track in anger yet (this is a new safety cell and chassis, unlike the open top version that has raced Le Mans and has been competing in ALMS this year), this might actually be a solid deal. The DeltaWing is the only class we know the exact configuration of which will be allowed on track next season when the ALMS and Grand-Am merge. P2s are expected to have 'minor' modifications but no specifics, and DPs will likely have a large list of upgrades to increase their pace but no list of these changes (or design work) has been done. With time running and pre-season testing being just 3 months away, the DeltaWing might just be the most financially sound prototype to buy for next year.

You know, with Chippy's connections to Bowlby and the original IndyCar Deltawing...
I wonder if you're allowed to build your own low power engine to put in this thing? I'd imagine it'd be far, far more competitive the moment you pulled out the Elan USF2000 powerplant, especially if you can find the Nissan-based-on-a-Chevrolet engine from 2012 to slot in. What with the not blowing up after 30 minutes thing and all.

I'm just wondering how that huge bubble cockpit will affect its aero advantage.

Yeah, Ganassi was one of the first I thought of, but didn't he want manufacturer support?
I can't see why a team couldn't throw their own engine in, just like every other prototype. On the other hand, every other prototype doesn't get to fully exploit ground effects or have a moving wicker, either...
Speaking of which, did we ever hear if the 'coupe' will have all the same aero devices?

You'd certainly have to imagine it would. Were it any other team I'd say trust the engineers, but I don't trust Elan to think these things through...
The continuation of the Deltawing, the front-engined top tier prototype, the ChampCar of the next decade (that only ran for one year) and the entire Panoz GT program are awesome. At the same time, none of them were actually very good at what they were designed to do. I worry the carbon fiber engine and the coupeification of the Deltawing will have the same result.

I'd imagine since the engine rules are different you'd have to build your own engine to the specs to run.
As for Ganassi, I doubt he'd take a risk on something this risky. He'll go with a Dinan-Riley or an HPD as ever, as they're the two least risky cars available.
