The very last Model Year (MY) 2014 Shelby Mustang GT-500 Convertible was auctioned off at Barret-Jackson's Hot August Nights auction in Reno, Nevada on August 10th for a spine tingling $500,000. All proceeds from the sale will support Brain Injury research. Mr. Don Damon of Grand Bend, Kansas won the bidding contest for the car with famed Indy winner Parnelli Jones cheering him on. Mr. Damon will get to customize the car in terms of colors and stripe combos per her wishes. Parnelli Jones will autograph the car when it is built to add a little something to the package.

“It’s my 80 th birthday, and I can’t imagine a better present,” said Parnelli Jones. “We worked hard to help Page (his son who suffered brain damage in a racing accident) recover from his injury, but we couldn’t have done it alone. We received help from the BIAA, and this funding will aid so many others who have suffered from similar injuries.” Barrett-Jackson is known for offering up either first or last runs of a model at auction with the proceeds going to charity. In this case, this was during the inaugural Reno Hot Nights auction.

Jones is famous for his incredible driver history and team history. He had the lead during the Indy 500 in 1967, dominating the field until his STP-Paxton Turbo Car, powered by a turbine, broke with only 3 laps to go, costing Jones the win.

The 2014 model year already ended? So basically there will be no more Trinities?

The car won't be delivered until year's end, so they're still building them for now. But apparently there won't be any 2014s built in 2014. Weird, I know.

It sounds like they were selling the right to own the last one. It hasn't been built yet, and the one on stage is just a sample, not necessarily the one that's being sold.

Ah, I was confused. Yes, guess I didn't pay too much attention to the fourth and fifth sentences.

This plane jane 2014 GT went for a cool $400k just to give kids airplane rides. A total of $2.49 million was raised at EAA's Gathering of the Eagles charity event.
