And it was supposed too.. Don't know the history of it but noticed it being used as advertising for a gaming store. Well anyways thought it was worth a share.. Didn't have time to study it and not a Celica expert anyone know any details of this model? Is it and awd model?

The Castrol livery is one of my all time favourites if not the favourite.

If my Camry were white I'd totally rock a Castrol livery, because race car.

my guess is that it's a fwd celica dressed up as an ST205 celica GT-four.

I dont think those are the GT4 wheels or front bumper. The hood scoop is wrong as well.

Kinja'd!!!

Sadly, the AWD model pictured above was not sold in the U.S.

Celica GT: FWD, 2.2L NA 135hp

Celica GT-Four: AWD, 2.0L Turbo 251hp

If remember the build thread on this is that it is indeed a stock FWD celica thats dressed up to look the the WRC GT4 from Gran Turismo 3/4 (a digitization of the Castrol/Toyota Group A Celica GT4 WRC car from 1994 ). Its pretty looking, but I think its just for show.

It's actually a pretty damn famous car:

Kinja'd!!!

Or at least, the original was. What you saw was a normal Celica made out to emulate the above car, which was a WRC winner in 1995, which was indeed 4WD.

But the car you saw is just a Front-wheel drive model (look at the ride height and front fascia) with a fancy paint for promotion.

Those look a lot like Eclipse wheels.

There were some pretty bad wheels on the GT-Four.

I believe these are the UK wheels

No no I like the ones on the proper GT-Four, I was talking about the ones on the fake one the OP posted.

Hell, I even like the three-spoke.

That's the one that cheated, right? With the doo-hickey that pushed back the restrictor plate

The car it wants you to think it is: Toyota Celica GT-Four (ST205)

The car it actually (likely) is: Toyota Celica GT (US Spec ST204)

The difference is lack of AWD and a missing 116 HP. The US Celica GT (2.2L 52-FE) was rated at 135 HP, but the JDM Celica GT-Four was good for 251 (and 239 for other markets). These were only sold in Japan, Australia, NZ, and Europe. By and large, the vast majority were sold in Japan, followed by Australia. A fair number found their way to Europe (read: mostly UK) because it was Toyota's European rally management which pushed for the car to begin with. I don't know of any LHD models (but that's not to say there wasn't one), so the steering wheel on the left of the car in the picture is what gives it away. Also, the oldest ST205's are only 19 years old, so they aren't US Gray-market material just yet.

That was the TL;DR answer. The short answer is, No. That isn't a fast car. It is, however, a pretty neat tribute to a stellar rally machine ( albeit maintained by a bunch of cheating cheaters ). Check out the old Sega Rally Championship (1 & 2) arcade games from the mid to late Nineties. The GT-Four was prominently featured there!

Why cheat if you have a great car? Not cool, Toyota.

That Celica belonged to DaytonaUSA off the Atariage forums. Funny how this car transcended the forums I'm active on lol. Where in New York did you see this?
