My goal for this weekend was to remove the bed from my truck and I succeeded.

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

This was my gas tank. It was held into the bed because the ancient wooden chest it was in was screwed to the bed with 6 long drywall screws. When I attempted to wiggle the box to see how it was connected I was able to pull the bottom of with little effort. I'm sure whatever I fabricate with my keg will be much safer than that.

This box is also filled with presents. Bask in their magnificence!

Here's the bed with the box removed but most of its bottom attached to the bed still. Eagle eyed readers might spy my fuel pump and gaze in wonder at my pawn shop drill.

Kinja'd!!!

The bed was bolted to the frame using 4 bolts. 2 bolted it directly to the frame and 2 ran through these blocks of wood and into the frame.

Those with a weak constitution might want to get out now. Following are some close up gores shots of that rust.

The bump stops look to be total losses as the metal is just flaking of the sides.

Kinja'd!!!

This frame cross member looks pretty gross but feels really solid.

Kinja'd!!!

The frame rails look pretty good. I believe I could fab up some cross members and remove the old ones if need be.

Kinja'd!!!

Now to grind all this rust off.

Enjoyed the write up. Show us some shots once the rust is off. What product do you plan on coating the frame with?

Will do. I plan on using Por-15 then some satin black paint.

That's some pretty candy-ass rust compared to a Landy frame from the rust belt, just saying. Mine (WI) had 3 wires per side holding the two halves of the frame together under the cab: 3 wires that used to be *welds* holding the not-there-anymore sheet steel together. My cousin's (NH) had the suspension hangers rusted completely off the rear of the chassis and had the rear of the frame supported on wood blocks.

Yeah, it sure could be worse. Glad it is not but I have my work cut out for me.
