I'd just tell people I drove a Cobalt just to troll and then when they see my car, tell them I mispronounced Corvette as Cobalt.

But then you get people saying "oh I thought you knew everything about cars. I guess you know nothing about them since you mixed up two cars. Also, my car is making a funny noise. Can you fix it?" It would be funny at first but it'll probably backfire.

Mostly directed towards non-car people. I know people who've spoken to me about Mercedes-Benz 3-series and Ferrari Diablos so what would they know? Lol

My friend has a 2010 Grand Sport. In conversation he refers to it as the Chevy. He tries to be modest about it.

True. I've met people who've never heard of Ferrari (yes really). Actually, most of the people I know are like that. But for some reason, they all know every beigemobile out there. I was talking to my friend about why I hate the Camry and I accidently said Corolla instead. I was like "I don't like the Corolla, oh sorry I meant Camry." To which she responded "wow you're stupid. You talk about how much you like cars and you can't even get the name of one right." *sigh* If only there was some easy way to get people to like cars.
