Those words form the tag line generated to sell the automobile you behold: AMC Concord. When I was a teen, I looked at anything from AMC, save the AMX and Jeep models, as junk. My sister had an Ambassador. It was the ultimate old lady car. My parents hated her. It's the only explanation. I mean look at it for yourself and decide. What on earth did she do to deserve this?
So, as the AMC Concord Wagon with a faux forest applied to it passed by, why was I smitten? Seriously. But I was. Perhaps it was because it was clean and well cared for by its proud AMC owner. I'm not sure.
In doing a little bit of research, there is no doubt this particular model, a Concord Limited Wagon, has an inline 6. Ah, those were the days when you could get an inline 6 in several cars. But I found out another interesting fact: the sedan version was available with an inline 4 that was the same engine used in the Porsche 924 and was designed by VW/Audi.
It's actually pretty luxurious, considering the era. And the owner really does take good care of this car.
Will this car or one like it fetch big numbers at auction in 25 years. It's hard to say. I tend to say no, but stranger things have happened.

Not bad.
The woody panels give it a bit of a geezer-factor... but not too bad. The fastback rear gate, and the turbine wheels, and general lack of ridiculously large size still keep it somewhat lithe. Without the wood, and some chrome delete, and a little bit of lowering, an AMC wagon like this might actually have some potential to look sporty.
But I still think the goods are with the Spirit/AMX/SX4 coupe.

150 years ago when my stepdad and I were looking for my first car, we stumbled on a black AMC Spirit AMX. I thought it was cool, but it needed a new air pump to pass emissions and he was not a guy that ever wanted to work on cars. Instead, I ended up with a Pontiac Phoenix. (It hurts to type that last sentence.)

Sorta my first car.
1978 AMC Concord Wagon. Green with the woodgrain. 6 cylinder, but probably only firing (reliably) on 5... or 4. Floor-mount highbeam switch.
I took the car to the mall not three days after getting my permit signed into being a license. While there, it snowed. Nirvana. Until the way home, when I managed to hit a mailbox... on the right side of the road... with the left front fender of the car. Oops.
Adding insult to injury: mailbox in question was owned by a mailman.

That's basically the Jeep Grand Wagoneer interior plopped into the Concord.
