Now that my car is going back together, we have started assembling my oil cooling system. Basically it's a filter relocation to a thermostatic sandwich plate, filter on the sandwich plate, then lines to a smallish 24 row oil cooler, then back. For those who like pictures I made up this cheesy little diagram in Google Draw. Initially I was going to just do a thermostatic sandwich plate at the engine, filter on that, and lines from there to the cooler, but so long as this doesn't cause problems, it will greatly simplify accessing the filter, sensors, and disconnecting the oil cooler (should I need to).

Who else here has some kind of custom cooling system for their oil and what route did you go with it? What is your vehicle setup/use?

For those interested in details, the engine is an S13 SR20DET (soon to be) running in a 240Z. The extra cooling is mostly to compensate for some SR20DET short comings as well as help out when I upgrade the turbo after initial testing this Fall. It will be aggressively street driven and run mostly in autocross and track days. I'm in the NW so ambient temps are only high usually when I travel into the high desert regions or down to NV/AZ to play.

Very similar to what I have installed on one of my motorcycles. Works fine for my use on a high performance MC engine. My ambient temps are significantly higher and that is the reason I went with the cooler.

1969 HD Sportster. Stroked/bored to 77 cubic inches. (from 55 C.I.) Still road driven and drag raced several times a year. She's a beast.

Unfortunately, being sold to a long time friend who has wanted it for years. I'm getting too old to keep up the pace she needs.
