I took my boys bowling this morning, and all I can say is, thank Dick Weber's Ghost for computerized scoring. I'm a pretty smart guy. Hell, I even understand the game of Cricket. But bowling scoring totally escapes me. This, plus the next ball, or the next two balls? Huh? Screw it. I'm getting a beer.

Beer was invented shortly after the invention of the scoring system for bowling.

Yes, because it drove the inventor to drink. Was it the French? Weren't they the ones who came up with the ridiculously silly conventions of tennis scoring?

I used to know how to.

I understand it, but only because my dad had me at the lanes twice a month back in the early 90, so by age 8 I'd basically absorbed it.

I feel the same way about Tennis. The only logic I can come up with is that the more boring to watch a game/sport is, the harder the scoring system has to be. Keep the fans occupied as they try to verify the current score.

It's easy... 10x12=300. Bowling math is totally easy once you add beer.

Eh, it's not that complicated. I've been bowling for 14 years, you get used to it.

Haha, I used to be in a candlepin bowling league that used manual scoring. It was a bit tricky at first but after time I found that I was actually more engaged and into the game when we weren't relying on a computer to do that all for us.
Kind of like driving, I guess. Save the manuals!

10x12 is only 272.72 repeating, you need the bonus 11th frame to get to 300.
Therefore, 11 x 12 = 300.
Therefore, 300/11 = 12
And 272.72 repeating/10 = 12
With 12 being a variable representing the number of points available in each frame.
Meaning 12 = 27.27 repeating (naturally, duh, it's so intuitive!)
Meaning that each frame is worth 27.27 repeating.
Now...where did my beer go?

How freaking awesome is this, the upstairs bowling alley down the street form where I grew up has google street view inside, I just found that out.
Anyway, they only have manual scoring, and I actually have never been there.
