He just bought himself an '05 Accord, possibly one of the blandest cars ever, BUT he went out of his way to find one with a manual transmission.

Don't get me wrong, he is by no means Jalop. He doesn't care about cars in the least, and for every bit that I am mechanically inclined, he is not. I'd be surprised if he could identify a missing exhaust. He is better than your average Honda driver though because he does understand the advantages of manuals and he likes driving them.

A non Jalop car with a Jalop gearbox and a non Jalop driver? Sounds legit.

Is it a wagon? I find the Accord of that gen to be a rather nice looking car actually :) The wagon is gorgeous :)

Sedan. I'm not saying that they look bad, just un-special. They look like... a car.

I had an 03 Coupe. Overall, way better than your average midsize hauler.

Ah well, it's a manual at least :) get him to install a KW suspension kit or something :) What engine is in it? Oh.. Just realised something,,, the EDM/JDM and the US version are two VERY different cars...

No need to be ashamed as long as he did his research; it might actually suit his needs. I know when I was buying my first "real" car I was looking for one that was reliable, easy on gas, reasonably priced, and a manual. After extensive (and I do mean extensive ) research I ended up with a 2003 Hyundai Elantra.
But after having delved so deep into the world of cars I found myself turning into a Jalop; my 'car research' had only intensified after my purchase.
Would I buy the same car today? Absolutely not (I traded it in for a Focus ST). But am I ashamed that I bought it? No, not at all. I still feel that I made a sound decision with that Elantra as it was everything I was looking for at the time.
Who knows, your brother might get bitten by the bug and find himself in the same predicament that I did. Although that Accord should be a lot quicker than an Elantra.
