I had a friends daughter come over to say goodbye, since she is leaving for Denmark on the weekend for about 10+ months. She is also going to Austria.

She is a typical "millennial" as she does not care about driving or car ownership.

But she loves car racing?

Any places I can point her to?

I already pointed her to the 'Ring, since she will have to pass thru Germany on the way to Austria.

Give me some tips, please.

I'm not in Denmark, but she MUST visit Legoland in Billund. I don't care what she likes, she simply MUST...

I'm not in Dernmark, but Sweden's relatively(-ish) close and a friend of mine (who is Danish but has lived here for several years) is going to move to Copenhagen in a few weeks or so to study.

Car ownership in Denmark is pretty damn expensive from what I've heard, and almost every car on the road (when I was there last time) is a subcompact or compact as a result. It's apparently got something to do with taxes and whatnot. I therefore don't know how active the racing community is there (at least on a grassroots level since even used cars are costly), but I can at least say that it's very active in the rest of Scandinavia, especially Norway and Sweden. That might be in the wrong direction for her though.

Speedhunters has at least written three articles over the years that have been tagged "Denmark" , which cover three different events there.

DHB Denmark seems to be a lot like Gatebil in Norway/Sweden and Bilsport here in Sweden, which means lots of insane cars (engine swaps everywhere and ridiculous amounts of horsepower), burnouts, drifting, drag racing, time attack and ( sigh... ) scantly clad women. The latter might be a bit off-putting for your friend's daughter, but from what I understand the culture is similar in the States as well.

The last of those three articles did remind me that Denmark also has a Touring Car series, so maybe she'll be able to go to an event like that as well?

I'm not Danish. Been there a couple of times on holiday, but live in London.

First up, Europe is full of motor racing. It's far more densely populated than the US, and distances are generally smaller, so travel is pretty cheap. What's on really local to wherever she ends up is one thing, but as far as big events go, nothing's out of reach. In any case, I kind of assume anyone visiting Europe for a while will want to see as much as possible - and it's possible to see a lot. (Incidentally, if the parents want to subsidise the trip a bit but are worried about handing over too much cash, offering to pay for some budget flights and train tickets is a good way to encourage seeing more of Europe.) You can pick the places you want to see, and there'll be motorsport worth watching in all of them.

Denmark isn't very big, even by European standards. It's tiny by US standards. The whole of northern Germany and southern Sweden are in very easy reach. If your friend's daughter is a bit more adventurous, though, and wants to take real advantage of being in Denmark, she should look into the Baltic ferry network. Some of it shows up if you zoom in enough on Google maps, to give you an idea. The ferries generally aren't too expensive, and if she has a car she'll find that basically the whole of the Baltic area opens up to her - whether that's for racing or other stuff. Somewhere like Estonia is a hell of a drive, but very easy with the ferry.

Both Denmark and Austria have lots of cheap flights and fast rail connections, and they're fairly central East-West within Europe, so they make good bases for travelling from. Depending on how long she's in each, it makes more sense to travel to northern Europe from Denmark and southern Europe from Austria, to minimise travel time, but with cheap airlines the distance isn't always much of an issue. From Austria, though, Italy can be a daytrip - and I don't need to say anything about Italian motorsport.

Other than that, if she wants to bag another continent while she's here, there are loads of cheap flights to Morocco, and staying there for a week or two costs next to nothing. I wouldn't recommend a girl to do that on her own unless she's particularly resilient, but then the same goes for much of the above.

Oh, and if she's hot and wants to visit London, I'll find her somewhere to sleep...

I'm sorry, did you just sick Jalops on your friend's daughter?

Great advice, which I will pass on to her. Except for your last paragraph.

She's a pretty girl, but I would not call her "hot". But I have known her since she was a fairly young child, so my perspective is different. Thanks for the info my Euro ___ friend. (I was gonna insert pervert there, but will not :)))
