Forgot to order the studs for my new up-pipe. Those won't be in till Thursday. But ordered a new CV axle that'll be in tomorrow ($70 at Oriley's rather than $190 at Subaru... The fuck). Oh and got some new gaskets for the manifold I hadn't planned on having to remove along with some gasket maker to help everything seal.
So the exhaust job went from taking ~4 hours to taking 4 days. Lets see how the CV axle job goes. Hopefully much smoother.
Sidenotes: Spark plugs are probably about due.... Theres a 3 hour job right there (gotta love flat 4's).

Spark plugs are easy! you just need the right assortment of attachments stringed together and stop at the point before you need to take the socket off and have to do the rest by hand before it runs in to the frame wall

Yeah, I share your misery on the plugs.

Not difficult, just a lot of taking off parts that have zero relation to the actual spark plugs.

Yea don't want to do them at all.

It is a pain, I did it on mine maybe 5 months ago and it was not entirely enjoyable.

Yea sounds about right. Want to run it on iridiums anyways though, so I figure if they're due I'll do it with the good ones, if not then sweet deal

First thing is take out the airbox, battery, secondary air pump and anything else that is mounted to the fenders. And whatever you do, DON'T RUN THE RATCHET INTO THE FENDER WHEN REMOVING THE SPARK PLUGS. I backed the ratchet out so far on the first plug that I got it stuck. Stuck to the point that you couldn't reverse it to run the plug back in. I think I eventually was able to reverse things by bashing the back of the ratchet with a screwdriver to flip the switch, or it might have been a rage fueled adrenaline rush that gave me the strength to get everything out. My memories of that moment are a little fuzzy.

What year is your car? The newer cars with the "secondary air pump" are a bit more annoying but still only about a 45 minute job for plugs. I've heard guys talk about a VW spark plug tool for extracting the actual plugs after they're loose but a good assortment of attachments/flex-joints/etc will make that job pretty easy!
One half shaft is a comfortable 30 minutes and possible in even less. There isn't really that much that has to happen for those if you go for the ball joint on the bottom of the knuckle. That will avoid the need for an alignment after too..
