I'm doing a little research for a longer article that I'll be posting soon-ish, and I came across this. Let's call it a by-catch. At first I was like "nice 'shop, I can tell by the pixels...", but then this article showed up:
It claims that were once was a shop doing these conversions for 22000 D-mark (the price of a Golf with some nice creature comforts at that time) boosting the total price of a new one up to 56k D-mark (S-class territorry). You could get it cheaper if you provided them with a used one whose rear end had been in a crash.
