It really makes sense, but part of me still really likes open cockpit cars. Maybe if they just allowed a taller windscreen it would help.
Also, keeping the cockpit open helps keep speeds down a bit. Thats one huge aerodynamic hole in the car.

It would certainly make this sort of thing go away (Massa after getting hit in the head; a bit graphic). However, I would think a closed cockpit would make it harder to extricate a driver after a wreck, and make it more difficult for the driver to bail out in case of fire.

nah, sports is about commiment and sacrifice, I'm willing to let a couple of racers die or loose an eye or two every year if we can go back to this cockpit style
it is worth it
