These days we'd probably just assume it's a wrap (on the car). Back then, someone got a paint brush out for that madness.

Sadly, it's not a wrap. It's an paint job made by an impressionist artist according from the source. I don't know which one tho.

I have pictures of Porsches being painted with brushes at LeMans. The hippie liveries were done last minute as well and the factory didn't like them after the fact.
