Interesting. Proportions look like a damn JGTC car. Interested to see the whole thing.
Really Nissan, sticking to those quirky headlight shapes? I feel like that started with a previous generation Maxima, seems to be around to stay.

I need to like... but am struggling, too. I keep picturing a CVT and it ruins it for me.

Why would they make a new one? They can't seem to give the current ones away. We have a used one on the dealership lot and it's low mileage and priced well below the market and STILL can't get even a bite on it. Nothing for over 3 months. I told my dealer not to buy it at the auction but did he listen? Nope.

I pray to God this one doesn't suck.

Because...Japanese reliability? Is that still a marketable thing?

Return of the 4DSC?!?!

Because this new design will make the Impala and the Avalon look like 5 years old designs, that's why.

Let's hope.

I find the current Maxima rather attractive, actually. I just think there is too much overlap between it and the Altima and I think the general public feels the same way.

They killed the current gen for enthusiasts with the CVT. And the last gen was butt-ugly. Don't screw this one up, Nissan.

I think it's a perceived thing. I don't think you can buy a car these days that is complete crap out of the box. At least, for the most part. The general consumer is a lot more informed and as a result the OEM's have had to keep pace.

I love the Maxima. Always have. But they've managed to screw it over... with one of their own cars! The Altima is pushing the Maxima more upmarket, beyond where it is marketable as a FWD, near lux, 4-door sports car. There really is 3 things that it needs to earn its keep in the Nissan lineup: A DI VQ35HR (from the last of the G35s and 350Zs), AWD, and the choice of either a DCT or 6MT option.

This 4 eyed thing is a nice and quite unique piece of design, be smart and use it in the corporate design language, Nissan.

I've worked for dealerships in the past. You know how often they listened to my ideas? Never. They never do. They go off "instinct" and buy whatever they feel will sell. I worked for a Mazda dealership and they bought a used M3 with "Competition Package" and 6 speed manual. The car was not the right package and they were trying to sell it for like $65,000. It was on the lot for 6 months.

I think they killed the current gen more with not enough differentiation from the Altima. It isn't much bigger, has the same motor options etc. There isn't anything that really makes anyone want to pay all those thousands more for a vehicle that isn't superior.

Or maybe it will be RWD, as a cheaper alternative, to the Infiniti Q70.

Like a Japanese SS?

Yep, or like a Dodge Charger, without the faux muscle car, mantra.

FWIW, if it had been available with a manual, I would have considered it when in the market last year.

I agree, it would have made it a far more entertaining car, however, most people don't care about those things. They look at value and the Maxima is just not a good value proposition at the moment.

I know the feeling. Yet, when they have a question about the competition or really, anything regarding other makes and models, they come to me first. Pump me for information and then ignore me. What's the point? Meh, job security.

As much as it pains me, you're right.

I'm looking forward to seeing their FR-S/BRZ fighter.

That's something I can get behind. I think the FR-S/BRZ are kind of like gold right now.

The current Impala is rather handsome and the Avalon is grown up, the current Maxima looks like dog shit so anything is a big step up in design.

Love that they're getting so much praise and selling well. Same with the Focus and Fiesta STs. Can't wait to see what Honda and others also have coming to try to steal sales.

The more good reviews and sales they get the more likely more models like it will come from other OEM's. Yes, this is good.
