I fancy myself a variety of whiskies but never developed a taste for gin unless in an old time cocktail. Any idea what this bottle will taste like?

I love gin like most love Whiskey and Scotch. This will be had on the rocks with at most a small twist of lime. Not long ago I got a bottle of Ransom Old Tom which was also a barrel aged Gin. It had a soft maltiness to it, but had alot of the aroma of the different botanical elements. Old Tom was incredibly smooth. I imagine this to be quite similar, not nearly as try as something like Tanq or safire. Like with the Old tom i think this is a drink best had straight or in an old time cocktail like a gin bramble. I prefer the straight taste of a gin like this rather than diluting it with so many foreign flavors.

On the rocks, very small twist of lime. I recently had the Ransom Old Tom which is also a barrel aged gin and the effect the melting ice has on the taste is pretty awesome. I know some people dont like the dilution but it really does make a difference. Gin is my go to, so experiencing all the flavors a bottle like this will offer to me is the best way. Gin is so complex I dont really understand the need to mix unless you are drinking something like Tanq or Cheaper.

I certainly plan on it. Maybe Ill do a bit of a write up while I am drinking it, so I give my impulsive first impressions.

I am slowly coming around to good gin. I had an awful night with a bottle of Tanq #10 one night at 22 years old and swore off it for life, but this is a much different animal. Enjoy, and have a good Christmas!

Everyone says that they had a bad night with Gin one time and swore it off. Gin is a different animal because of the Juniper. You are basically poisoning yourself when you drink it. On top of that, gin tends to run 5-10% higher ABV than other liquors which also lends to impaired judgement and increased hangover. Gin demands respect, responsible drinking and understanding that anything bad that happens is your own damn fault lol. Have a very merry christmas and good luck in your future relationship with Gin.
