It had to be a BMW, and the lights had to have been left on.

likely new driver who borrowed their mother's car.

I...
I didn't know you can keep the lights on while locking your car.
but maybe that's because i never thinking of doing that.

Those are aftermarket, they probably stay on for 10-20 seconds.

My dad parks like this sometimes, he just bought a new Escape, he doesn't do it to be a jerk, he just can't park. And the parking sensors start blaring at you way before they should. Once it starts beeping, he's parked, and sometimes it looks just like this.

I think leaving them on means "Hey sorry I don't know how to park, but I'm gonna be back soon and out of here. Otherwise my battery will die."

Or "Hey lets block 5 cars in when the AAA truck shows up to give me a jump"

An X5 is not a BMW. It's a trophy wife mobile plain and simple.
Do not flame me 4.8is owners, those were cool, but for being wrong. The fact they later slapped an M badge on any SUV is also simply appalling (yes, I'm referring to the later X5's, at the least the 4.8is didn't have that stupidity on the tailgate).
For the record I do own a BMW, a RWD, Manual, 3-series... Which are so rare these days it is beyond sad.

While I think while that may have been the intention, it was probably more in line with Nick's reply below - they forgot, because asshat, and will come back to a dead battery, because asshat.

Teach your dad the error of his ways as I'm sure he taught you the errors of yours many times growing up.
Ignorance isn't an excuse, it's a crutch.

Dem Aftermarket Halos.

Oh I was just kidding. I don't think it was intentional.
The universal way of intentionally saying "sorry, be back soon" is leaving the emergency flashers on

Is that an excuse? I don't think it's an excuse.

You can argue semantics all you want.
That is a BMW. It is parked like BMW's tend to get parked.
You can't defend the whole breed based on a few elitist enthusiast comments.
Sorry.

Haha!
Best way to confuse drivers behind you? Wobble between the lanes with your four ways on.

Naa, we just laugh about it when we're together, he's almost 70 now and I'm a few years away from 40 so he gets a pass on perfect parking. Once he gets used to the new car and the parking sensors he'll be fine.

I disagree as most I know tend to be "curbed" in an attention grabbing fashion, rather than in between two cars and sideways.
I do love the detest we get for no reason also, although it can be quite entertaining.
I can drive the EXACT same way in my 335is or 9-2X Aero Saabaru and when I'm in the BMW it's the others out there who are ridiculous. Driving the same way, when I'm in the BMW I get flicked off, people flail their arms, try to beat me off every light, etc. When I'm in the wagon it doesn't bat an eyebrow.... quite eye-opening.
