Looking for a new comedy series to watch while falling asleep.

For the last few years, whenever I go to sleep I've been setting my PC to play a season of some sort of TV series; It's usually either a cartoon or an American sitcom. Recently, I've kinda been running out of things to watch.

The shows I 'watched' like that include:
- How I Met Your Mother
- Futurama
- Family Guy (up to season 6 or 7, after that it got unwatchable)
- Daria
- Married... With Children
- My Wife And Kids
- Allo Allo
- Dilbert (that one wasn't very good though)

I do prefer cartoons because of the better sound balance. There are much fewer very loud bits and the voices are usually easier to hear without having to crank the volume up.

Shows I tried but did not like:
- Friends
- The Big Bang Theory (this is the worst bloody sitcom I've ever tried watching, and I've watched My Mother The Car)
- King Of The Hill
- Happy Days (couldn't even get through the first episode)
- The Simpsons (I guess the show wasn't absolutely terrible, but it never clicked with me like Futurama did)

I also tried The Honeymooners, but the sound balance was so terrible the show was unsuable as a nighttime playlist. The intros were incredibly loud, while the dialogues were really quiet.

Maybe you have some ideas about what I should try next? My current library got kinda stale.

The IT Crowd?

...But I like the big bang theory so... don't take anything I say to heart.

Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee? High sleep potential there.

Animation for you to try:

Archer

American Dad

The Cleveland Show

Bobs Burgers

See how you go with those...

One of my problems with TBBT was the fact that most of the humour was based on awkwardness, and I find this sort of thing very unfunny and annoying.

Gonna check out The IT Crowd though.

I've actually seen a few episodes of American Dad and the Cleveland Show. They weren't great. I'm generally not a fan of Seth MacFarlane (apart from his singing, that's flippin fantastic).

Gonna try the other two though. Thanks.

It's a terrible show, yes. The laugh track is unbearable at times as well.

Also, not a comedy but worth mentioning: House of Cards. I've fallen asleep to that many times, it has a really nice pace and decent nighttime volume levels.

I'm more used to comedy (since it's more of a brainless watch), but I did use House MD as my nighttime show a few times, so I'll check out House of Cards. Cheers.

Totally get that. Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee was my latest sleepytime series, but if I think of any others I will let you know. Usually now I sleep to whatever dumb nonsense my wife is watching. Which actually works out well. Don't tell her I said that...

It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia.

I second The IT Crowd, and add Black Books and Father Ted. I believe all 3 are from the same creator.

Have you tried Arrested Development?

It's not a cartoon but a rather fun show and full of hidden jokes and puns.

There's also Ugly Americans which is a canceled comedy central show with only a couple of seasons available but it is plenty fun, maybe you'll enjoy it.

Hope this helps.

Seinfeld...

Seinfeld.

It is, without a doubt, the greatest comedy, nay, the greatest television show, ever made.

See also: Scrubs, The Office (US), Parks & Recreation, 30 Rock, Community.

But, seriously, Seinfeld.

"Mission Hill" (1999 ) was a short-lived but underrated animated series on The WB about a 20-something struggling cartoonist/slacker and his overachieving younger brother living in a hip neighborhood. Smartly written and with a cool art style similar to indie comics, the show was ahead of its time but it found life again after Adult Swim aired reruns in 2002 (that's when I discovered it). Plus, they made fun of hipsters before anybody else...

agree, though maybe after a season or two once the show got going (the first season of Seinfeld, like many long-running sitcoms, isn't quite there )

Yep. It picks up steam well into season 2 (the first full season), but doesn't hit it's stride entirely until season 4. From that point on, however, it's pure gold.

Oh one last one.

Aqua Teen Hunger Force. It's one of those Adult Swim shows from the mid 2000's, before Adult Swim got kinda crappy and stopped making good animated shows. There's at least 10 seasons of it and even a movie, which was alright. The show is about a cartoon about a shake, french fries and a meatball that share a house in new jersey, and as always there's tons of shenanigans happening to them. I love that show, maybe you can find it funny, but it's alright if you don't.

Eastbound and Down, Legit, Louie, Home Movies, The Ricky Gervais show (which is just his podcast animated), Venture Brothers (you'll either hate it or love it), Shameless, and Southpark are all good bets.

X-Files isn't really comedy despite plenty of comic relief, but there are tons of episodes, so that will burn some time for you.

Also, The Late Late Show with Craig Fergueson is always absurd and hilarious. Best part is there are 5 new episodes every week.

heh, yeah. otherwise you'd look like a big time weirdo.

it seems there are two type of people in this world: 1) people who have no idea what "Mission Hill" is, and 2) people who are obsessed with "Mission Hill" and know every character, episode and joke. there's no in-between...

(we're obviously the second type)

Archer, hands down. Start from the beginning though, it's worth it. Some of the best jokes reference previous stuff.

Just to throw this out there:

Dr. Katz Professional Therapist. It's really quiet and the humor is super dry and ridiculous. It features all sorts of stand up comedians basically doing their comedy routine in a therapists office. It's totally great.

I like Gaki no Tsukai, but it won't work as a bedtime watch because of the subtitles.
