It was worse than vertical. it was diagonal with vertical margins.

Because that would require reorienting the digital imaging sensor to landscape. That would be less intuitive because they want to line up the camera's resolution with the phone's.

just have it compensate digitally. You film in portrait, the screen projects a wide screen letterboxed video, prompting the user to rotate the phone, or you display the full screen, but its only the center section of the video, and in reality you are only looking at the middle 3rd of the video being recorded.

Yeah, but then you have lower quality recordings. Same issue as with digital zoom, and you can always do it post-recording anyways.

fair enough, someone needs to write an app to make it easier for the masses to do, or youtube should make your video filter through a process to orient the video properly.

This is all Apple's fault.

I owned an iphone for a total of 4 weeks, and it frustrated me how few apps worked in landscape mode. The phone makes you use portrait.

I've discovered that it's impossible to tell my parents to photograph or film things in landscape mode on their phones*.

*while ensuring my limbs remain usable at the end of the day
