Would You Consider These is a new feature in my kinja, because there's lots of weird Indonesian Domestic Market Cars and Bikes Sold in here, and i want to know how do you guys from outside of indonesia think about one of these.
The mio was the cheapest Yamaha Automatic Scooter that you can buy here in Indonesia. It's just about 1000 bucks when it was new for the base model with steelies, and i think it's the best bikes i ever had.
*That shopping basket upfront is optional tough.
So, what did you get for your 1000 bucks?
You got a 100cc engine, giving you about 10hp and drives the rear wheels. But because it's only 80kg light, it could do 0-60 in about 10-13 seconds, and if you got big enough balls, it will do 86mph. It's also uses the very simple CVT Automatic Transmission, so anyone can ride it as long as he/she could ride a bike. You also get some headlight to help you seeing stuff on the road at night, seats for 2 people, and a 3 litre of cargo space. And oh ya, 0.97 gallon of fuel tank.
It's a very good scooter if you just need small scooter to haul your ass arround, especially that thing got 39-40km/l, or about 92-94MPG. Yes there's some little drawbacks like the there's no ABS, or the body is made out of some hard plastic so when you crash it you'll totaled it, and the rubber belt inside the cvt could snap if it's haven't been changed for years, but i love that tiny thing!
Anyway, if this thing goes on sale in the US, would you consider these?
*Small Shameless plug, That black/purple one is mine ;)

Ehh, I kind of see Yamaha pulling a Honda (car): No torque until 4-5000 RPM. What the shit?
I'll stick with the SR50, thanks.

Ya, so that's why the acceleration times is bad because you have to rev it up until you got some power. But when you get the power there's a huge mountain of torque blow you away.

Ehh, it's most of Yamaha's offerings (I'M LOOKING AT YOU, FJR.) that have absolutely no torque from the start - something that couldn't be said for my 919.

Sure, that actually sounds appealing. I live about 8 miles from my office, so that little thing seems like it would work great for getting to and from the office, and that's much better fuel economy than my Subaru wagon gets.
Some of the Chinese and Taiwanese scooters are starting to be sold in my area, but they cost around $2000-$3000USD for a Kymco and I would expect a Yamaha to have better build quality.

If I'd been able to get one for that price when I bought my bike, I would have had it like a shot.
It seems funny to say it about a 125, but the YBR was actually way more bike than I needed for commuting - anything over a 50cc would have been fine - and the Mio would have been cheaper to insure and run.

If I lived in town instead of ~25km away on a hugway that's frequently icy and blasted cold more than half the year, I would be all over something like that.
Cheap(ish) to insure, and very cheap to run?
Sold.
