IMO GT6 looks better....on a last gen console. Lol
![]() 12/09/2013 at 17:04 |

Forza is more 'alive', GT is dull.
This is moot.
YT compression ruins EVERYTHING. They want to be serious about such videos they'd throw up another link to a Vimeo or Dropbox account to download the raw(er) footage to make better comparisons.
![]() 12/09/2013 at 17:06 |
|
They both have their ups and downs. But neither one is alright. There are plenty of lefts too. :p
But seriously I'd call it a toss up. Forza seems to have more detail but I like the look of GT6 better. Less detail makes it a little less distracting when you're trying to race. I'm going to lean GT6 because I've always liked GT better.
![]() 12/09/2013 at 17:24 |

I like how there's a bit more yellow in the light in Forza. Makes it feel sunnier and warmer than in GT. Both look fantastic though.
![]() 12/09/2013 at 17:24 |

Isn't this a little unfair due to GT6 being on PS3 while Forza 5 is on XBone?
![]() 12/09/2013 at 17:25 |

Forza definitely looks prettier, but I'd still have the GT6 version. Which is why I have GT6, and not Forza 5.

The one that I have invested my time and money into wins. But I chose wisely and have a Playstation.

Forza by miles. just look at the trees from 1:45
![]() 12/09/2013 at 17:28 |
|
I like the fact that Forza added crowd elements and more detail in the surroundings, but I think GT6 does a better job realizing shadows and highlights to simulate what your eye sees and help pull you in.
I would prefer to see what a race looks like to compare AI and car dynamics because both look great in time trials.
![]() 12/09/2013 at 17:29 |
|
Whatever. I can use my Logitech wheel on GT6 and I didn't have to buy a $500 system for it. It's not even a remotely fair comparison.
![]() 12/09/2013 at 17:29 |

Is it just me or is the lighting in GT6 a lot better?
![]() 12/09/2013 at 17:29 |

Gran Turismo hands down. 6 is always greater than 5.
![]() 12/09/2013 at 17:31 |

GRAN TURISMO FOR LIFE.
Though I gotta say Forza looks pretty good. Too cheap to give it a try, though.
![]() 12/09/2013 at 17:32 |

I agree, but the release dates and cost say they should be the same quality.
![]() 12/09/2013 at 17:33 |

As many folks have pointed out, what both of these games really need is better audio quality. The graphics are great and have been since last generation (Forza 4/GT5) but the audio blows.
![]() 12/09/2013 at 17:33 |
|
I kind of agree. Forza appears more detailed and rich but IMO looks more like computer graphics.
And yeah the fact I can just pay $60 and keep playing on my old console beats out having to pay for a new game plus a new system. I plan on getting a couple more years out of this old PS3 :D

You know what does it for GT6? Motion blur, among other things. In the video, Forza has not as well done blur

Chose wisely? You mean the manufacturer that just had a massive security fuck-up... again?
![]() 12/09/2013 at 17:38 |

Both suck equally. Gotta love when fanboys think that if they can lap Nurburg in 9min in a game, they can do the same in real life.

Is the audio from GT6 or Forza?

Yes, we play racing games because of trees.
![]() 12/09/2013 at 17:39 |

The fact that I went straight for, "BUT THEY PICKED DIFFERENT TIMES OF DAY IN THE SIM SO THE SUN ANGLE AND SHADOWS CAN'T BE DIRECTLY COMPARED" should go a long way in support of the conclusion that both are really frickin good.
![]() 12/09/2013 at 17:39 |

The lens flare on Forza has aperture edges, so they are showing you the view of a camera - vs making it like what you would see (at least in this video) - stuff like that seems odd to me. It is pretty, but I'd rather have it more realistic.
![]() 12/09/2013 at 17:43 |

Dammit! Now I really need to get one of these. They both look beautiful.
![]() 12/09/2013 at 17:43 |

Forza's and GT6 graphics and lighting have a completely different goal.
Forza embraces the theatrical movie shots, glamour, rays of light, haze, engine sounds, etc.
GT6 in the other hand just tries to replicate things as you would see them with your own eyes, which means no exaggerated or fancy lighting effects, no over-saturated colors, no exaggerated anything.
Forza 5 feels like you're in a racing movie. GT6 feels like you're in an actual race track.
![]() 12/09/2013 at 17:45 |
|
I've been playing Forza ever since the second one on the 360. I'll wait for Forza 6 though. They took out too much stuff compared to Forza 4. Damn DLC. I was not impressed with GT5. I've yet to try GT6. Hopefully there's more European and American cars. GT has always felt like it was made for a Japanese kid to me.
![]() 12/09/2013 at 17:46 |

Yeah I think you're definitely right. Prob helps them hide a lot of stuff too.

Those of you that use a steering wheel for these games, how do you achieve a realistic driving feel? Sticking a steering wheel on my lap and the pedals on the floor just feels so unnatural.

After all this hubub for me the winner is... Forza 4 for the best car list. GT6's track list is really tempting though.
![]() 12/09/2013 at 17:52 |
|
The problem with forza 5 is the loss of so many cars and tracks. I have GT6 and the lack of polish on the game is apparent, and yes there are 50 GTRs and S2000s but they kept in all the previous cars and tracks. They also added the ability to drive on the moon. They definitely started to try new things and make improvements but it was rushed out to compete with Forza 5 which I assume at least plays like a finished title even if they want to do micro-transactions.
Personally, I think the argument is moot because both are a bit stagnant. Forza 5 is "next-gen" and GT6 is half-done. I hope patches make the two of them better in the future. Not happy at being an early adopter right now.
![]() 12/09/2013 at 17:56 |
|
GT6 wins it. The bobbles does it for me. Forza 5 makes the experience seem artificially smooth while GT6 emulates the reality of uneven surfaces and suspension movement which makes driving on a track in real life so damn fun and dynamic. I can almost feel the weight transfer watching the GT6 vid. Both are awesome though.
![]() 12/09/2013 at 17:56 |
|
the graphics in Forza 5 are better but GT6 seems more involving. With GT6 you can see the car react to small bumps but with Forza its a custard smooth. not very realistic.

![]() 12/09/2013 at 18:08 |

Substitute 'feels' with looks. Then you're kinda right. But cars in GT sure feels unnatural and two dimensional compared to Forza.

Have you driven GT6 with a proper FFB wheel? It's leaps and bounds better than GT5 and Forza 4.
I'm one of those hardcore PC sim racers and GT6 is the best-feeling title I've seen for console.

So, does last gen console mean anything to anybody? Because at the end of the day, I'm glad I saved 15% off my car ins......... I mean I saved 500$ for buying GT6, and not an Xbox 1 +FM5.
(edit) PLUS GT6 CAN GO TO THE MOOOOONN!!!!! lol (fuck you Forza!)
Also day, night, rain, snow, shine, working headlights, wipers, (FUCK YOUUU FORZAAA!!!!) and much better tire feel, cars feel more drifty in forza, I never liked that.
(edit2) PLUS MANY TRACKS!!!!! Nurburgring, goodwood hill climb, rally tracks, willow springs, and many many more that i can't think of off the top of my head, oh did I mention THE MOON!
HAHA, sorry i just love that FM5 will make you buy a season pass for all the tracks they missed and the cars you wanted, but were never included.
![]() 12/09/2013 at 18:19 |

This right here. The quality of the video is really subpar and doesn't do either of the games any real justice.

![]() 12/09/2013 at 18:22 |

No. Only gt5, though with a top of the line setup, rally seat and all. It was VERY disappointing. Compared to Forza (4), it seemed like they didn't even bother modelling the suspension.
Honestly I must say that I have a hard time believing that GT6 is that much of an improvement. Looks pretty much the same, and still has this half finished aura to it. One can hope I guess.
![]() 12/09/2013 at 18:26 |

Looks like Forza 5 gives you fans, and GT6 gives you motion blur. I wonder whether Forza 5 scales the attendance of your race against how many times you've attempted it.
"EVOpimp2002 is giving it another go at Bathurst, everybody! I think he'll be on the podium this time. Who's coming? Anybody?"
![]() 12/09/2013 at 18:27 |

Forza looks better (mainly due to the mountains in the background, the dead grass alongside the track, the warmer dusk lighting, and more tree variation)... but I'd expect and hope that a next-gen XBO exclusive would look better than a current-gen PS3 exclusive.
![]() 12/09/2013 at 18:27 |

Agreed. Microsoft and their bullshit steering wheel license stuff. Doesn't matter how good Forza becomes, it's horse shit that I should have to buy a wheel just for that system.

The problem for me is the touchy driving physics of gt since I don't have the money for a good wheel. And I'm using forza 4 as an example since I haven't played 5 yet. In forza I can use the weight transfer and feel a slide coming, feeling like I have more control of the car. In GT it feels like just about every mr or fr car you can't really control the oversteer with the controller very well. It's too touchy and tends to lead to snap oversteer. I just don't care for the way it seems the GT creators didn't seem to have any interest that some people play with a controller. The fact that "x" is the default gas pedal proves it. I am off topic but this comparison is apples and oranges until we see GT on PS4. The graphics are great on both games. That being said I am playing GT6 until I can afford xbone. I like them both.
![]() 12/09/2013 at 18:30 |

I love you. Where have you been all my life? I've been walking through a sea of dumb people.
![]() 12/09/2013 at 18:32 |

Well, you're correct in that it looks almost exactly the same — I was disappointed when I first fired it up. But it has an entirely new suspension physics model and tire model. And it's night-and-day better than the one they've been using for I don't know how long.
I've driven everything out there — Forza, GT, iRacing, rFactor/GTR, pCARS, LFS, NetKar Pro — you name it. In addition I've accumulated many hours of seat time on the track in real life.
I've not played Forza 5 (and since I don't plan on buying an xBox One, I probably won't), but I'd say the GT5 to GT6 jump was huge for overall driving realism in console titles.
It's still behind something like iRacing or RF, but it's a HUGE step up for consoles.
![]() 12/09/2013 at 18:33 |
|
I ended up being both after I heard the NSX concept car was in GT6. Having never played GT before... I hate GT6. Maybe I just don't know how to find a proper free play mode where I can just do what I want, with the cars I want, without grinding a bunch of little FWD econobox "races" to get there, but the point still stands.
Mind, I don't like Forza 5 over Force 4 or Horizons, either, but I don't actively dislike Forza.
![]() 12/09/2013 at 18:36 |

I wouldn't really call that a taunt. You said nothing that is provoking whatsoever.
![]() 12/09/2013 at 18:36 |

When the hell are these game designers going to realize unless you're watching a cut scene lens flare DOESN'T MAKE SENSE! Your eyes don't have lens flare!
![]() 12/09/2013 at 18:43 |

Now that would be great. Attendance increases for consecutive races and placing until you falter under pressure and restart, then boom, no more fans.
![]() 12/09/2013 at 18:44 |
|
There is no comparison really. GT6 looks worse than GT5 due to Polyphony Digital pushing the graphics past the limitations of the machine. With them trying to bump the graphics up as much as possible and still attain 1080p and 60 fps they had to use some tricks to get as much power out as possible, and those tricks make it looks worse than GT5.

Forza gives a better sense of speed (the whole blurring of the sides of the viewport, ect.) while GT6 delivers a nice driver's experience (car dynamics).

I played the first NFS Shift game and I remember liking it. Mostly a sim with a little bit of arcade thrown in. And this looks even better.

I've played every Grant Turismo game AND every Forza game except 5. I liked them all (except Horizons grumble grumble). They're all great games with good physics, graphics and realism imo. They have gotten progressively better. And even when they change the formula a bit and I dislike something about the game, I can easily dismiss it because of how good everything else is.
I don't think I could pick one over the other. I have played a bunch of hours of GT6 and am loving it. I don't have an Xbox One, so I haven't had a chance to try Forza 5 yet, but I must say it looks really good, and I'm sure it's a great game, despite lacking a few things.
I'm glad Forza exists as a challenge to Gran Turismo and I'll continue playing both whenever I can.
![]() 12/09/2013 at 18:58 |

Obviously Forza 5 looks and sounds a lot better than GT6. It's impossible to discuss that.
I love my Gran Turismo, but still it's hard to miss the drawbacks... It's a more balanced game than GT5, but not perfect. No idea on Forza 5 as I've not tried it.
![]() 12/09/2013 at 19:00 |

One thing I hate about Forza is how "flashy" everything has to be. Why is there a "buff" sound everytime you go past a lampost or tree? you'd not hear that...

As someone who has never played either of these games or and barely their previous iterations outside of a handful of times but still liked both series, here are my unbiased comments:
GT 6 has much more realistic looking environments, now it could just be the lighting due to time of day (Forza looked like sunset) but the backgrounds seemed more vivid and lifelike. Especially from 1:45-2:11 it's like the draw distance is higher on GT6, the horizon is detailed, buildings looks detailed even at a distance. These are small things I notice.
Also parts of that video made GT6 look almost like a real footage, the only thing they could've improved was toning down the shade of green on the foliage a little.
Forza on the other hand seems washed out but maybe the time of day played a factor. They should do a different track. But man GT6 really holds up as a last gen game.
GT6 has minor tearing and flickering going on with the shadows. Forza has small screen tearing issues.
![]() 12/09/2013 at 19:05 |
|
They both suck for totally different reasons.
For Forza the DLC and gold account gouging model I freaking hate how they do it.
As for GT6 I have no idea why they refuse to put more diverse cars in it the game is still %60 (figures from my butt) RX7+Skyline+GTO(where the hell is my SG5 forester for god sake they had a forester in GT2. And I don't know why they insist on using a vacuum cleaner sounds.

![]() 12/09/2013 at 19:07 |

If anyone out there is really that serious about racing sims to care about which one is better, I would strongly recommend including iracing in this.
I know you will need a pc, but as numerous people have pointed out, $500 gets you an adequate gaming pc to play it, but you will have to fork out for subs and a decent wheel.
It may be a tough pill to swallow, but I loved all the previous forza games, and the GT games. They are great in their own right, but nothing beats going up against up to 30 or so other cars, all driven by real people. Its a great investment, its great fun, and it can be tremendously rewarding. It really makes it difficult to pick up a console based racer after getting into iracing.
![]() 12/09/2013 at 19:08 |

Forza has more side markers that are usable for braking points, so hat tip to Forza, but the track detailing of the road surface is so much more on GT6, win there for GT6. buy both!

And I'm just sitting here, waiting for Project CARS.
![]() 12/09/2013 at 19:16 |

GT6's cars don't feel two dimensional. The 405 or so "Premium cars" are all absolutely gorgeous, and we also have improved "Standard cars" of which a few of them are basically premium cars with no cockpit. Namely all the Rufs, the SuperBird, the R390. the AE86 and it's variants, and a few other machines. The lighting really helps this beauty as well.
However, most cars still sound terrible in-game, and sound contributes to a machine's character above most things.
![]() 12/09/2013 at 19:22 |

So $60 for the game + Whatever it is for the console vs just $60 for the game.

![]() 12/09/2013 at 19:40 |

The reason why Forza lost so many tracks and cars are because they are rebuilding the engine from ground up. There are no carry over cars or files from the previous version. Forza 4 have cars that were rendered in forza 2, and it was the evolution from FM3.
I applaud T10 for having the balls to chuck away 8 years worth of data and write everything from ground up.
![]() 12/09/2013 at 19:42 |

The shadows and stuff can't be compared as GT's version has time change and weather change.
![]() 12/09/2013 at 19:48 |

Also, here is a short video from LeMans. It's only 720p since the xbone DVR records it as such (not sure why) but for all of you saying that you can't see the car moving, well, you can. Trust me, it bounces and moves around a lot.
![]() 12/09/2013 at 19:50 |

I'll hold my applause for when they give away cars and tracks in updates. I will also hold my booing for if they decide to increase the price of car packs. Same goes for polyphony and all these "features" that are supposedly in the pipeline.
![]() 12/09/2013 at 19:53 |

Difficult choice. Forza does have a little bit better lighting and "feels" faster, which I don't need detail to the most minute detail, it just has to be fun and fairly realistic. I've been a Forza guy for awhile but I am thinking of coming back to GT, mostly due to the micro transactions, stripping of some of its best features, etc. Forza Horizon was an enormous disappointment so I think they have probably lost me as a consumer for now.
![]() 12/09/2013 at 20:05 |
|
No they are not. No gamer will ever be as good as a real racer. Real racing requires hours of attention while gaming requires 5 minutes of very little attention. Real racing involves physics and weather, gaming doesn't. It's the same as arguing whether CoD players are as good as real soldiers.
![]() 12/09/2013 at 20:06 |
|
The differences I can about, tells me, take Forza in a blowout visually.
The only visual I enjoy more on PS4 are the trees. Seriously. Sony, pay that tree guy/gal.
Forza feels more like what you see from the cockpit.
As for driving feel, well, that's likely different again.

![]() 12/09/2013 at 20:18 |

I don't know what the Pro-Forza folks are looking at. I was expecting it to look better since they touted their lazer scanning so much, but it looks FAR worse than the GT6 version. The tar strips, road side detail, curbing, etc. It all looks better in GT6. maybe it's bad video resolution. Still, makes me think the Nurburgring excuses were just cop-outs
![]() 12/09/2013 at 20:19 |

When GT6 won a comparison : "It's the work of a perfectionist, not some money grabbing mega coporation."
When GT6 lost a comparison :"Gameplay > graphics, go back to your arcade game."
It only took 3 days of play to look through the smoke and mirror for me this time..same old same old.
![]() 12/09/2013 at 20:57 |

Really? For the first 30 seconds especially, Bathurst in F5 was loaded with bleachers, fans, more advertisements and details around the track and tire marks. The downhill section in GT6 looked a little more dynamic with the sun but look at the video 0:13 seconds in: you've got the bleachers on the right, and to the left the press boxes are filled with details in Forza where you've got empty boxes with no windows in GT6. Similar view at 0:22, at 0:55 the signs don't have anything on them in GT6, 1:15 there are rolling hills to the right in GT6 where in Forza it looks like a whole party of vans and cars and people watching the race. I think the colors may look more realistic in GT6 but the details are there in Forza.

I ordered some buns from the baker.
He asked me how many.
I said, "Six."
He blinked.
"You mean a half dozen?" He asked.
No, I repeated myself, "Six buns please."
"Oh," he said in an unsure tone of voice. "But a half dozen is better."
I rolled my eyes.
"Six is the best," I proclaimed.
We argued and argued until another man entered the store.
He said, "I'd like a loaf of bread please."
The baker and I both yelled, "Fuck off, you goddamn iRacer!"
