Anyone else read the Song of Ice and Fire series of books? (spoiler?)
I just finished A Dance with Dragons (book 5) and I am so utterly sad I don't really want to keep reading it. I am so addicted to it though that I have to keep reading to find out what happens in the end. Luckily book 6 doesn't come out for a little while so I get a respite from my disappointment.
It is way worse than the Red Wedding ... I don't really want to give it away but my favorite character has been murdered (so far as the last chapter of his) and I am so very very distraught. My wife thinks I have a problem because I was so mad I threw the book across the room and my son looked at me and laughed.
I just wanted to scream swear words but the children were in the room so I contained my anger. I need solace. haha.

I know people IRL that have survived 4 stabbings.
He'll be back

I just couldn't make it through the third book. I tried. I really did.

I hope he will be back. I just can't shake the last few words "He never felt the fourth knife. Only the cold ..."
I personally thought he would turn out to be "The Light Bringer". The character is so complex and wrought with self doubt and introspection that I couldn't see him being dealt with like this.
George RR Martin is a dick :). Expect disappointment is my mantra moving forward.

I know! I was like WTF man??? When reading the series you get used to the idea of a main character dying. That's all he does. Build someone up, until you accept that character as the new leading figure, only to have that person killed in the most demeaning way possible. But this time it really hit me. Maybe we should have seen it coming? His rise to power was a little too quick!
Well, there's still Arya!

The fourth book was the worst. He totally redeemed himself with #5 though. The third was way better than #4. It is a tough read when you get into the chapters about Sansa, Catelynn and Cersei. They are pretty much insufferable but Sansa's character gets better while Cersei just gets worse.

The whole series is complete shite. It's only when you take a step back and have to wait for another book that you realise just how truly awful it is, though, because otherwise it carries you along just fast enough to stop you noticing.
I find it completely mystifying that they bothered to option the books for TV, because the plots as generic as they come.

I finished it a while ago, which character are you referring to? So many main ones have died I have lost track. When is book six expected? It needs to come sooner.

It's definitely a heavy read.
I did the same as you

I hate to say the name just because I hate blatant spoilers but he is base born.

I haven't started book 5 yet for exactly this reason. I don't ever want it to end, just in case GRRM dies, I want to always have one more book to read. And I'm scared of being disappointed. I'm already disappointed at this point.
BUT I really love GOT too, too, much. I have dreams about it, I think about it all the time. It's just part of my life now.

I just hated everyone in the books. This has to be the only case where I enjoy the show/movie more than the books.

Dammit now you are going to make me reread the book! lol

I found myself liking all the characters less and less. I just couldn't give a shit what happened to any of them. I thought Eddard was the shit so that didn't help.

Different strokes for different folks I suppose. I will have to respectfully disagree. I usually hate fantasy stuff but I am hooked.

ha, I'm surprised that wasn't your mantra once Ned was killed.
Worst case scenario he's resurrected by Melisandre, best case scenario he survives his wounds and bands the two fighting groups together. middle ground he's dead.. but I won't accept that until it's verified for realsies. First stage of grief is denial :P

Ned had to be killed for the story to move into the next stage. Although I was miffed about it I understood that it needed to happen. I just don't understand this one. So much was being done and now it is all unraveled if he is truly dead.

That's what they do. But it's like candy floss, or something - can't stop eating it until it's all gone, but when the taste's out of your mouth you realise it was just a kind of crack.

Well it wasn't completely out of the left field. Martin had the klaxons blaring that an attack was coming. Fear not, he has a habit of killing people and bringing them back.

I completely agree... I feel dirty for that but I agree wholeheartedly

exactly . let the denial flow through you.
