My addiction to French Lions is growing. This 309 GTI is joining my 205 CTI at home.

Its my first time seeing one of those, and that is an awesome looking car. Enjoy it!

Nice. Not many of those left. And I recognize those wheels from somewhere ...
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
And can I gently push you towards the Citroën BX GTI?

Thank you! The car handles amazingly, one of the best handling front wheel drivers I ever drove. I had been reading that the 309 takes the 205 handling a bit further because it's better balanced and that is quite accurate. I don't care if it looks like a Plymouth Acclaim, the car is fun to drive.
Here is the main office:

Ha! Nice wheels! Yes, they look small on your car. Do you go to the Peugeot Treffen in Schweinfurt?
And I would loooove a BX GTI. I almost bought a BX diesel instead of this! You got a BX for sale?

Very nice! Those things are rare as hen's teeth these days. You'll want to hang on to that!

Yeah, unfortunately on Germany's version of Cash For Clunkers a few years back many 309s were sadly scrapped.

I remember looking online for a GTi in the UK a while ago and I found like 3 for sale. I think that if you keep it for long enough it might pay for itself.

I never heard of it to be honest. Although I do live close to the German border my German isn't that great, and it's a 5.5 hour drive according to google maps. I bet my car+(winter)wheel combo would get a lot of reactions though.
edit: no, no BX for sale. I just like them a lot. And CXs even more, but they're hardly hot hatches like the two you've got. My parents had a BX diesel when I got my license. It already had 330k on the odo back then. I had some great fun in that car. It did sound like a tractor though. One of the things I remember best was the remote for the doors. It was the size of a fridge, not attached to the key and it would only work when you were really close to the door. On a good day.

Call me jelly! It's been years that I saw a good looking 309, let alone a GTI. I have a personal memory with these cars. When I was still a small kid living behind the iron curtain, my family had some friends living on the other side, who would visit us on occasion. One of them drove a 309. To me, this car was like a spaceship. It had power windows, and a fucking remote for the power doors!!!!
Fun fact: The doors between the 205 and 309 should be interchangeable. For some weird reason, one of the requirements when they designed the 309 was that they should use the 205's doors.

Sweet :) the only one of those I've seen was an old rally car that was out for a Peugeot-sponsored trackday a while back.
Speaking of Peugeot things, my mate's got a cammed 106 GTi which is a little bit mental. He's looking at stroker kits to take it from 1600cc to 1750, and a set of individual throttle bodies as well :)

Congrats, i always wanted one of those.... but it'll probably never happen.
BTW, i read somewhere, that the 309 was a Talbot design originaly, and it was ready for launch, when PSA decided to shutter Talbot. So they put the lion rampant up top. Know anything about that?

I know it's definitely an old Talbot, but I haven't heard about the lion rampant.

That could be Colin McRae's old 309 Rally Car:

Sweet :)
What's yours like to drive, or is it too early to tell?
Any modifications other than the low?

No engine mods, mostly suspension: Raceland shocks front and rear, Powertech front lowered springs, Powertech rear torsion bar, Group N shock bushings, Peugeot Sport strut bar. Also Schroth four point harness on driver's seat, Storm front and rear bumpers, and Renault Clio fog lights.

Sounds like a bit of a backroads missile. Great fun :)

it came from the talbot horizon at the start and nearly got the name "talbot arizona" but finally 309. as "klaus Schmoll" in his post... the doors of the 205 and 309 are interchangeable this probably because the 309 use the same platform as the 205, which was extended to the ends for the occasion. 309 GTI (130 ch 1.9l injection - same motor as the 205 GTI 1.9 ) 309 GTI start in 1987. which year is yours ? few things change during some "updated".

I am unsure on the year yet because here in Germany they track the year of first registration instead of year of manufacture. I think it was made in 1989 but first registration was in 1991. I will be checking with Peugeot to see if they can give a date of manufacture.

yes good idea ! from 1989 milesime 1990 : simple grille bars instead of 2 double grille bars...
