Close the Internet for today.
W196 FTW.

Is this the only F1 car that has had closed wheels? I have always wondered that.

Apparently, yes.

Other teams made streamliners. I'm very sure Auto Union made one. Mostly used on Avus, but the W196 streamline was for Monza.

Yeah, but those were pre-F1 times. I'm talking about F1 cars.

Actually, I just found this.
The 50's were such an amazing time for all motorsports, in that even the friggin British were using streamliners.

Ah, yes. The Vanwall streamliner. Forgot about that one. Still, it doesn't look quite as good as this Merc.

Nothing looks as good as the Merc. Anyone who tells you that is legally blind or insane. I used to include the British in that as well, but I just knew too many crazy Brits and that was throwing off my statistics.

Also, the Ferrari iteration of the Lancia D50 is actually pretty close to being a streamliner, too:
EDIT: damn nibbles :

Oh my god that car.
That car is so Italian that it hates all of the Italian restaurants around my house because they're nowhere near as good as its mom's cooking.
Ferrari did a smart thing regarding imminent fire and closed up those fuel tanks, though. I'd consider that a streamliner.

Back when race cars were beautiful.

Funnily enough, this car was also all about aerodynamics, too, only quite the opposite way as today's F1 cars.

Impossible To Live Up To Headline Exceeds Expectations

I'm not sure I completely understood the humour in this, but I recommended it anyway.

Was just amused by the "probably overselling it" Jalopnik
Style headline. Then I saw the picture and realized that yes, that is probably the best looking F1 anything I've ever seen. Kudos.

Aren't all titles like that? They grow up so fast.
