18-year-old Jameson Witty is being held on $20,000 bond after stealing a T-top roof panel off the tow truck carrying the wreckage, and then posting the evidence online, to his account entitled "Jameson Witty".
!!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! is the caption accompanying the evidence.
When questioned about his motives, he justified the crime by saying:
"I got it for my buddy who was driving the car we were in, so that he could always pay respect to the guy that got him into cars"
Cops had no trouble finding the asshat, and arrested him at his home in Los Angeles after obtaining a warrant according to a statement released by the Sheriff's department. A 25-year-old man is also wanted, and arranging to surrender.
"A witness saw a male exit a vehicle that was following the tow truck. The male grabbed a piece of the wrecked Porsche off the tow truck bed. The male drove away with the stolen vehicle part," the statement said.
Good luck, Witty. Try not to take Hollywood hype too seriously, and stay out of trouble. It's not worth grabbing parts from the wreck of two deceased men.

I've never understood what it is about the interwebz that causes people to cease to think rationally.
1. Pretty much a delta bravo move to steal something associated with another person's death. Whether for potential personal gain or as a souvenir, this act is pretty low.
2. Who in the hell thinks it's a great idea to post incredibly damning evidence of said theft to the most public of forums?
![]() 12/06/2013 at 10:09 |

1) You don't fucking steal something like that.
2) If you do, you don't fucking post on line about it, ever. You don't even tell close friends about it. It's a personal secret that you can never hope to profit from, another reason why you don't fucking steal something like that.

There's a way to go about taking pieces of wreckage and posting it online without getting busted. Small insignificant pieces are key.

So the ass hat stole something off the car that someone (2 people in this case) died in to sell off on ebay because they were famous and he thought this was ok!?! Wow, he truly is a shining paragon for all that is good in our society, his class and altruism are truely something we should all aspire to.

I hope he gets hit by a Porsche CGT at a crosswalk.
Not hard enough to kill him, but a tap in the shins that makes him fall balls-first into the front corner of the car - as if the CGT was saying "You KNOW why!"

Is the car considered evidence or anything like that? I'm not sure what the procedure is for car accidents that aren't obviously foul play, but given the high-profile nature of the case I'd imagine that forensics is going to do further investigation of the car in a lab to determine exactly what happened.
Kind of a side note, but extra asshat points for this guy if he's stealing a piece of evidence from an ongoing investigation (the T-tops panel probably isn't a crucial piece of evidence, but the point remains).

At some point, he thought each of these things were good ideas:
1. run up and steal car parts off a tow truck while stopped in the middle of traffic
2. document the crime with digital photos
3. post said photos to the internet under an account using his full name
4. ...and none of this was for his benefit! his "buddy" wanted it

![]() 12/06/2013 at 10:46 |

He has alot of legal trouble here.
1. that car part still belongs legally to the estate of the original owner and as such he is technically stealing from the estate of said owner
2. since its from a Carrera GT im pretty sure that its still worth something in the thousands of dollars even as a salvage part.
3. even though there probably is no moral argument FOR taking possesion of it, I doubt any reasonable person would agree with him
4. He is also taking evidence from the scene of the accident and can run into huge trouble with the police involved.

It's the modern american version of having a saintly relic. It's something people have done for eons. As for publishing in a public forum, that's a special kind of dumb.
Of course wreckage is rarely 100% cleaned up. People at the site of the crash likely picked up less identifiable melted bits for themselves. And because it was left behind on the street, there wouldn't be any crime in picking it up. Of course it wouldn't be some nice intact part, but rather melted and/or broken bits of this or that.
Given the expense of the car, an intact T-top even at salvage prices must be of a value high enough for felony theft.

Little piece of a headlight in gutter? Grabbing that is morbid, but not completely idiotic.

![]() 12/06/2013 at 11:09 |
|
Yes this was wrong and he is a twit. But I think you are missing the real crime here. He stole it at a stop light??? Oh hell no!! He needed to whip that car in reverse on the highway jump from the roof to the tow truck, almost get thrown off, grab the part and slide down some winch line shot from a crossbow attached to the still driving backwards car and take an exit ramp at 75 mph in reverse do a Jake turn and slide through an intersection onto a major street and drive away. Now THAT is how you steal a part from Paul Walker! I could respect that...but a stop light??? No no...that is sad!!!
![]() 12/06/2013 at 11:09 |

Carrera GT roof panels are selling for $6500-$6900 a set on ebay . So just as a part alone this thing is worth upwards of $3,350.
California statute says something is a Grand Theft( and is a Felony rather than a misdemeanor) if the stolen item is worth over $400 .
So even if we ignore everything except the fact he stole this part, he is still guilty of a felony. Well done you absolute waste of blood & organs.
![]() 12/06/2013 at 11:09 |

And definitely don't do this while they're still looking at the scene or the car. "Tampering with evidence," etc., etc.

A good friend of mine was killed in his '93 Z28, and after the crash I went to the junkyard to look at the car. why does it matter?
it is a broken piece of a totaled car. some people may want it as a souvenir I guess but does it worth sending the police to pick up a teenager and possibly sending him to court and jail? too much trouble for a piece of wreckage.
![]() 12/06/2013 at 11:50 |

I remember seeing my first wrecked exotic in person. Guy totaled his Vanquish into the brick pillar at the end of my buddy's driveway at about 6am. We were out there before anyone else, made sure the guy was ok, called police and paramedics, etc. Anywho, I had this overwhelming desire to just take one of the headlight housings, so I did (I was young but I'm almost 40% sure I asked...somebody...maybe). Anyway, that Aston Martin headlight is still a lamp in my house, I still know the guy that crashed (drives a 458 spider {helluva nice guy}) and the car, being the actual entity from which I stole, was obviously being totaled.
So back to this T top. Stealing something off the back of a tow truck at a stop light is not the same as snagging a headlight housing that shot 30 feet up into your buddy's driveway....ok maybe it is. Not my call. But this guy almost certainly had no idea that Paul Walker was in that particular car. In the end, is there any other aspect that angers you guys?
Side note: there is an overwhelming desire to take what is considered a completely obsolete piece of a clearly totaled exotic car when given the opportunity. I've felt it, and I'm far from a thief by nature. So realistically, would ANYONE care if this hadn't been the car Walker died in?

That's a much different situation when it is of someone you know personally.
Plus junkyards usually don't care about small bits. I've never been charged for them, only the hard parts I bought. Bits of trim, bolts, light bulbs, etc they couldn't care less about if buying other stuff or paid the admission fee IME.

![]() 12/06/2013 at 12:03 |

Well if it landed 30 feet into his driveway, it might not be theft. But I'm no legal expert.
But this guy almost certainly had no idea that Paul Walker was in that particular car.
I think if he added the words "Piece of Paul walkers car, took it off a tow truck at a stop light #paulwalker #rip #comeup " then that's a pretty clear indication he knew who was in the car.
![]() 12/06/2013 at 12:05 |

When I was in high school, some douchebag senior crashed his crazy mustang cobra (it was his fathers car, put over 15k into the motor, was supercharged and had about 500 ish HP, the cops said he was going over 100 in a 55 mph zone) killed his girlfriend, his best friend and his best friends girlfriend. He had one of his friends go to the tow yard at night and steal the hood from the car so he could put it in his room...TO REMEMBER THE CAR HE LOVED. His father was rich so he paid off the families, and the kid only had to do 100 hours of community service.
![]() 12/06/2013 at 12:06 |

Exactly my thoughts. And I should have added, I personally wouldn't have taken a t-top of the tow truck. But had I somehow ended up with it then later found out it was from Paul's car, I would have been mortified, not compelled to tweet about it. I guess I think this guy is more of a douche for posting the thing than stealing it.

I like how your number #2, in some ways, suggests stolen death souvenirs are analogous to stolen high-priced art: great, you got the souvenir, but what's next? Who will buy it? Who can you really trust telling about it? Reminds me of so many art heists, except without posting about it on an online forum, lol.

There's the issue of stealing evidence from an accident of yet-to-be-determined cause as well. Your Aston didn't result in the death of someone, and the case was pretty much closed after he hit the pillar.

I actually think that, despite the utter shitbag-ness of how most mainstream media outlets are treating the situation, they have done a good job of not ignoring Roger entirely, treating him as a person who will be missed (as opposed to the poor bastard who died riding shotgun with Ryan Dunn, whose name I doubt I even heard mentioned once). It's sad that Roger's legacy will be, in the long term, "that guy who died with paul," but those of us who knew him like to remind everyone we can what a good dude he was. both of them were.
