Opponauts,
I will be purchasing a 2014 sportwagen tdi 4motion when we can order them in the spring, but I have a question.
Are there any new 7-seat wagons available in the US? Who makes them?
If none, what are the best used ones?

Yes, you can get an optional rear-facing third row in the Mercedes E-Class wagon.

The ones arleady posted (old ass Chevy, new Tesla and new Benz) are about it I believe.
So you can have a 100K mile Caprice, which is very affordable but may not as nice as most (all?) new offerings, or you can spend $50K plus for the other options.
Seems like the market is ripe for an affordable, new 7-seat wagon.

Land Rover LR4?
OK OK, it's not a wagon, I'm maybe trolling just a little bit because that's my mood today.

Wait...there will be a 4motion TDI available for order this spring? Based on the new platform...that will look like this?

A VW stab at the Outback?

Oh, I've definitely thought about it. It's a bit expensive for me now, but maybe in the next 5 years or so I'll pick one up.

Didn't know those had 7 seats, interesting.
I'm going to have to pass on that though, as I don't hate myself.

Very cool. Probably out of my price range, but good to know. Does the AMG version retain that option?

So they're telling us. It may be closer to summer, but we'll see. Three of us guys in sales are already lined up to buy, haha.

An Italian wagon that seats 7 with a manual, what's not to love ?

I wonder why VW isn't parading the new Sportwagen at the auto shows? They are desperate for attention and the auto-journos will have a giant wet dream over this.

Agreed. The new Volvo polestar v70 wagon will be perfect, but probably far too expensive.

No idea. If it turns out to just be a rumor though I'm going to be massively disappointed.

Yep!

The A6 based AllRoad was available with a third row seat

It sounds pretty amazing, yeah. Definitely not cheap though.
We need a good RWD, 7 passenger, manual wagon (wow! so jalop!). Seems like Chevy or Dodge could pull it off with the SS/Charger platforms. Of course no one would buy one and it would be cancelled, but for that brief moment, we would comment about it a LOT. :)

I don't like the looks; and if it drives anything like a standard 500 (abarth is an obvious exception) I want no part of it.
Also, I need an automatic for my wife.

Ah, forgot about that one! Thanks.

Mmm, yes. Something like a cheaper CTSV wagon, then?
![]() 12/04/2013 at 10:37 |

Yep! I don't need 500hp (well..I do but I can make due with over 300) or a super nice luxo-interior. Give me a nice new RWD, V8 manual wagon with a 3rd row and I'm in.

Volvo XC70?
Seems like this was asked before on TTAC, check it out:

Are you sure about that?

Yes, aimed at the Subaru XV Crosstrek. Articles keep calling it the Alltrack. And I'm guessing it will have body cladding and it is expected to sit 1-2" higher since it's aimed at the Subaru.

Gotta clarify something, the 3rd row is only an option on the as-yet unreleased 500L Living , which is about 8 inches longer than a normal 500L. They go on sale in late 2014, I believe.

I know you could get it in the E55 wagon. I guess they ditched the option for the E63.

Defender 110 with Troop seating...
room for 9
![]() 12/04/2013 at 11:59 |

Ah, okay. That makes sense.
Also, I hope they're going to give it a bit more power if they're making the thing even longer. Geez.

Cool, thanks for the link!

Yeah. It's a shame, but really, how many people needs a $100k+ 7 seater.

No one mentioned the Volvo twins...
The V70 & the XC70 both had an optional rear-facing bench, like the Benz's
Don't think the V60 has it though, as I can't seem to find it

If the polestar V60 wagon has a third row option, I will sell a testicle and purchase one immediately.

I believe the plan is for it to have the same 160 hp 1.4L turbo engine as the regular 500L (here in the US; Europe gets more engines including a very torquey diesel).
What's funny to me is that even with the stretch, it's only ~4" longer than a Ford Focus and half a foot shorter than my Dart. Obviously this means the third row would only be used in a pinch, for small children.
