I'm not a fan of HID or the blue or yellow look, I want a very bright, white light. I don't want to just cruise on over to my local parts store and buy just anything. Winter is starting and visibility is getting limited.

GE Nighthawks work quite well.

Silverstars are nice, but in my experience (purchased over 20 sets), their life is not that great. Silverstar Ultras are even worse
These days I go for the next tier down - Sylvania Xtravision. They've lasted quite a bit longer than any of the Silverstar pairs I've owned.

I bought 6000K HIDs for my FR-S from DiodeDynamics.com They're almost blue-ish. A 4300k HID might be what you want.

I run Silverstar on my bike and truck.

I've had the same Silverstars in my truck for 8-9 years. 13-15 on my bike and its lights are on all the time.

Hoh. I've never had a set last more than 4-5 months, and they were on all the time.

Do you use dielectric grease?

Got nothin'

Yup. It's anecdotal I'm sure. I love their output but have never owned a pair that lasted. Maybe it's the high altitude? No, you live in/around Albuqueuuaueuqu don't you? Central and Northwest NM is where I lived for a long time, and never had a good pair. Maybe all the jostling as I did hill hop pretty much everything I owned...

That spelling of ABQ made me laugh. Many people get really twisted trying to spell it. I know you can do it so I found it rather humorous. I'm on the highest part of the west mesa, close to 5800' according to Mr. Garmin. Did you live in Farmington?

I've compared Sylvania Silverstar, Sylvania Xtravision, OE bulbs, Osram Silver Star (which are NOT the same as the Sylvania Silverstar), and Philips Vision Plus in my Jeep with Euro H4 conversion headlights.
The Osram Silver Star and Philips Vision Plus have by far the brightest and the most comfortable color. Sylvania Silverstars are less yellow than OE bulbs and "seem" brighter, but if you compare them side-by-side, they do not actually illuminate the road much better.
These are unfortunately both hard to get in the States. I bought mine on eBay.
If you haven't seen Daniel Stern's page yet, he has a lot of really interesting tech info on headlights. http://www.danielsternlighting.com/tech
