The 2014 Corvette met a stanced BRZ on the banks of the Hudson over the weekend.

So those wheels are like 1/7th the price of the car. They are sooooo expensive.

Much photography.
Very wallpaper.

And here we see the mating habits of the "sports car". Unusual for most species of automobile, the Corvette is a passive male, often lurking in the garages of newly-promoted plumbers. Looking close, we can see this yellow one cautiously approaching the river.
The Subaru BRZ, the aggressive female, will stalk the unassuming Corvettes in hopes of catching one by surprise from behind. To make up for the difference in size and strength, they will often use stealth and trickery. The sexual dimorphism is obvious, no two BRZs appear the same, whereas the Corvette is relatively homogeneous among its indigenous species.
These two individuals are near the end of the mating season, when many sports cars go into hibernation for the winter. They will need to pair up quickly if they want a chance for their offspring to survive the next model refresh.
The sounds of screeching tires, the natural sports car mating call, can be heard well into the night as the two cars leave their mark on their territory. It looks like this will be a good year for these two, and in the spring, we may get to see their cubs:

Did Travis really leave any tire tread left on that C7? Because I wouldn't.
"What do you mean bald, I thought they were slicks?"
![]() 12/02/2013 at 19:39 |

On the stance debate, that is an acceptable amount of negative camber IMO. That is stance done right.

I don't know, if I had a nice budget (60k) for a sports car, S/C'ed or turbo'd 86 with BBK, TE37s, aero, and weight reduction wouldn't be a bad idea...

Dat Lens Flare

Or you could just buy the other car in the photo, that looks better and will still be way faster.
![]() 12/02/2013 at 19:43 |
|
Different viewpoints. Personally, I don't like the C7's looks. I admire it, think it's unique, and find it incredible, but I dislike its appearance - similar to many Lamborghinis in this day.
And as we all know, this car is faster than a M3, which costs in the 80k area, but people still buy those.
![]() 12/02/2013 at 19:43 |

Mmmm V8 Miata gravy. God I'd love to turn some heads with that thing.
![]() 12/02/2013 at 19:44 |

I don't know, for 60K, you can have a 500hp BRZ monster. It is not only more powerful but also lighter than the vette. . .
![]() 12/02/2013 at 19:44 |
|
That is a great photo...who took it?
![]() 12/02/2013 at 19:44 |

Right, because brand snobbery still exists.
![]() 12/02/2013 at 19:44 |

I would too, but I always forget that sometimes the people that buy these cars aren't always college kids like me.

TAKE ALL OF THE STARS! ALL OF THEM!
![]() 12/02/2013 at 19:45 |

OHHHH LAWD THEM TE-37's!
![]() 12/02/2013 at 19:46 |
|
If he had a BRZ and a $60,000 budget, the 'vette wouldn't be way faster.
![]() 12/02/2013 at 19:46 |
|
Those are TE 37's right? They are really really popular it seems, I see them on a ton of cars.

![]() 12/02/2013 at 19:47 |

Yeah, I love the BRZ but in my opinion spending more than the value of the car on mods is to miss the point of it.
![]() 12/02/2013 at 19:52 |
|
Anything by Ray's is popular on this car. Can't blame them though, their rims are made for this car!

COTD!
![]() 12/02/2013 at 19:54 |

Maybe not in a straight line but I bet around a track it would be. That $60k wouldn't be able to replicate the technological advantage of the corvette. Especially if a big chunk of the budget was being spent on purely aesthetic mods.
![]() 12/02/2013 at 19:55 |
|
I guess it depends on the person. I would be alright with spending 25K in mods for this car. It would make the car mine, and it would make it badass! It is just two different perspective cars and modding.
![]() 12/02/2013 at 19:57 |
|
I'm close to being a college kid. I understand it. I'm just saying a young man who's making a decent salary could go for one of these, well modded. I've seen some nice ones on ft86club.
![]() 12/02/2013 at 19:58 |
|
How do you even spend 60k in aesthetics?
If I had that budget, most of it would go for a BBK, s/c or turbo, etc. Suspension and rims DO help performance. So do tires (falken azenis, michelin pss, hankook rs3, etc).
![]() 12/02/2013 at 20:03 |

Then you'd have a noisy, harsh, tin can cobbled together by any number of people, and based on your mods the only thing it might do better is go faster in a straight line, while running at the extreme limits of its abilities. At the same time, the Vette would be loping along, barely stressing any part of its thoroughly engineered pckage, without voiding its warranty, and loaded with amenities and comforts the BRZ never even thought of having. And the C7 would probably get better MPG too. BTW-the BRZ isn't a sports car.

Flyin' Miata FTW!
![]() 12/02/2013 at 20:17 |

Dude, 30K in mods can make just about any car faster than any other car.
You could probaby make the BRZ nearly as fast as the Vette around a technical and twisty track without even touching the engine or chassis, simply by adding a nice set of racing slicks.
I think the more important point here though is this: Real people dont just find the fastest car for the money and then buy it. That sort of thinking ignores everything else we want in a car. Is the Vette faster? Yeah. But if someone likes the BRZ more that doesn't make them stupid. It just means they have different car preferences than you do.
![]() 12/02/2013 at 20:23 |
|
Oh yeah? Well in the purely hypothetical scenario that I dreamed up, the BRZ work was done by a dedicated and thoroughly detail oriented tuner. In the meantime the Corvette we're hypothetically comparing it to is actually a lemon and totally breaks down every five miles with random computer glitches. And the electronic door handles break, locking you in your car to starve for several days until a beefy man named Chuck wearing a wifebeater takes pity on you, smashes your window and then gives you a ride back to his house in his Pontiac minivan.
See, made up dream scenarios work both ways.

A "stanced" BRZ. Yes, I'm sure they totally improved the handling on a car both Toyota AND Subaru both collaborated on to have the absolute best handling possible.
![]() 12/02/2013 at 20:28 |
|
Arguably the BRZ already handles better around a track.

Dude come on, this is Oppo not the FP. No being a dick.

They still make those?! God, those wheels have been around since the dawn of time...
![]() 12/03/2013 at 00:56 |

I know right? And thank god...they are maybe one of the best ever made. Gorgeous, light, strong, go good on everything. They are expensive but worth it.
![]() 12/03/2013 at 01:04 |

I like them too, but I don't think i've seen them on a Prius. Maybe the SuperGT Prii, but not a road-legal prius. I just hate that this guy has stickers on his 6-ers.

A simply beautiful install. Looks like it could have rolled right off the Mazda assembly plant floor. (Well, minus the Corvette logo).

It's a sports coupe.

can we get an album of all the high res shots?
![]() 12/03/2013 at 21:38 |

Which is a sports car, no?
![]() 12/04/2013 at 19:04 |
|
No. A sports car is a sports car. A sports coupe is not. If it were a sports car everyone would be calling it a sports car, but few are.
![]() 12/04/2013 at 19:08 |
|
So what defines a sports car? Is a GT a sports car? Is the M6 a sports car?
I'm not sure how you can say a car with >400hp, <2500lbs, and track tires/te37s is not a sports car.
![]() 12/05/2013 at 01:03 |

I love Vettes, but claiming the C7 looks good is just silly. Aggressive? Sure. Beautiful? Not even close.
![]() 12/05/2013 at 08:30 |

I guess we'll have to agree to disagree. I think it's gorgeous, and certainly way way better than the brz.

Looks good enough to be rejected by true stance enthusiasts.
You know, these gentlemen:
