... and by no means am I saying that the gift isn’t a great gesture ... but why not give the man an F150? I mean, he has obviously made the Edge work for him as a work truck, but the point is that he uses it for work. Why not give him something so that he won’t have to vacuum grass clippings out of his interior?

The article mentions that perhaps Ford has Edges aplenty since they’re getting to end of production. I guess the guy seems to like the edge a lot so hey.
Still a nice gesture even if it is in the name of publicity :)

Perhaps since the gentleman had chosen to buy an Edge previously, it was a safe bet that he would appreciate a new one of the same model, rather than something very different .

I mean, yes, he chose an Edge. But what he really chose was a work truck which happened to be an Edge. If a guy was using an old splintered broom handle as a crutch, and you give him a brand new broom to use in place of his old one, your gift is generous, but kinda missing the point.
I dunno, maybe reading too much into this.

Absolutely, a wonderful gesture! And the guy could not be more deserving of it! I hate to sound like a wet blanket. I just feel like the spirit of the thing was missed entirely, or, as was mentioned, Ford wanted to get “ Edge” back on people lips for some publicity. Which, i mean, is great and all.
Still, I feel like the guy deserves to have a truck for his truck needs. Of all the people in the US who buy a truck and never use it as anything but a family car, why give the one guy, who uses a family cas as a truck, something other than a truck?

I’m just an anonymous guy on the internet guessing too. I don’t know anything about it really. Just guessing that the safest choice is the same model. However, if I’m the guy and I need a work truck, I’m trading that in for one.

What I learned is that there might be deals on the Edge?

I mean, yeah. It's marketing. And a truck may have been a better idea, but clearly he likes the edge, and he's passing his current one on to a family in need. He can also lock his stuff in a contained vehicle without having to buy a tonneau cover or box topper. And he seems super happy about it. I vote we all just let everyone win here. :)
