C orrect: “ An accordion is often considered an acquired taste.”

Incorrect: “ An thicket is an prickly predicament.”

I swear to EFF I lose my damn mind w hen “ an” is used preceding a word that begins with a consonant-sound...

I sometimes do.  But without the ‘an’.  And usually with a lot of alcohol, but perhaps that begins to rub shoulders with ‘ironically’.

I can generally pass off that kind of stuff as ignorance/stupidity, but pronouncing caramel as “car-mel” is nails-on-chalkboard, stabbed-between-the-toes levels of rage inducing to me.

I absolutely agree with you, but I’m wondering what pushed you over the edge to post about it.

Oh, are we talking grammar peeves? Because I’ll hang out. You’re right. Another I hate is when people say height with a “th” sound.

But my current worst is pronouncing the t in often.

That bugs the heck of me but I just about have a stroke every time someone uses ‘s when denoting a multiple. I notice it proliferating  and autocorrect systems own a lot of the blame; I have to correct the autocorrect on my phone doing it to me far too often.

I really struggled with that one when I was reviewing reports. I was generally just supposed to be reading for content to make sure information was technically correct and matched legal verbiage but ended up giving grammar lessons to adults.
