It’s been a while since I took the ferry on a day as clear and beautiful as yesterday
Fun fact, this ship has been refit to run on CNG. Talked to one of the engineers and he said while it’s running nicely and giving them no problems, refuelling every day is annoying, and the increased risk that comes with taking on -200 degree CNG isn’t their favourite thing.

The LNG plants work decently as long as the tuning is up to date and the Capt don’t treat the stick like an on-off switch. It’s had teething issues with evaps crapping out on both Salish and MLU Spirit jobs which was the biggest headache
. We had issues with defective LNG system
pneumatic
valves and the nitrogen generators. There’s also some operational niggles
with regards to bunker prep tank pressure drop
regarding the Salish Class.
It was a pretty big screw up on the estimated gas consumption though as the Spirit has to bunker 2 LNG trucks once a week which wipes out most of the night for any other sort of maintenance other than prepping the vessel for the next day. In 5 years they will have to bring in extra people to either be a bunker team or help with maintenance and repair work (they loose a significant amount of maintenance
time as LNG Bunkering
is around 1.5-2h if everything goes well
)
.
The Salish gets away with twice a week for full all-
day
every day
sailings.

I had to look up Strait of Georgia, but that scenery is incredible.

We’re pretty lucky out here when it comes to scenery
