Great read for those who like data. I love these types of articles because they don’t generalize or say we need blindly spend more money. Our country needs
to be more strategic
with where we use
our resources and how we verify that we are accomplishing
our
goals with measurable outcomes. There also needs to be better control of the influence of big businesses
and creating a level playing field so small businesses
can survive/thrive
.

Inequality is just more chance to pull those bootsr taps and let things trickle down so a rising tide lifts all....yachts, right?
Historically, these trends don’t end well.

I hate when I trickle on my bootstraps.

M
aybe the new bootstrapping is being an influencer, You
tube/
TikTok star,
having a successful
podcast/blog, or having a startup. We could be
in the middle of a transition into a different economy. However,
Andrew Wang pointed out that when enough of the
people who are losing out
on the economy
get sick of this, they are not going to take it quietly (see protests).

I would vote so hard for any candidate that talked about and used data like this. Especially in local elections where it can have a massive effect.

The trickle will be golden!
Oh, wait

Unfortunately, I suspect the odds of being a successful influencer/YTer are probably up there with becoming a pro athlete or an actual bootstrapper. It’s a fun dream, but most won’t make it. Not a realistic career plan.
The protests are just going to get hotter over time, if the chasm continues to widen.

I agree.
Problem is most politicians lack the comprehension or courage to use it. The general public doesn’t want to know how they are getting screwed (even the upper middle class). Everyone wants to think they’re a winner.

An interesting quote from the one article:
“
The American dream is dead, as he’d proved with exhaustive government data showing today’s workers can no longer expect to earn more than their parents did. Now those left behind by the economic changes of the past few decades could be robbed of any remaining opportunities to get ahead.”
I’d love to see a study of how entrepreneurs and business owners (who started their own business) have survived. I’ve known a few people who have done their own business. Some have done well, and others not so much. What is it that separates the successful from the failures?
